Chapter 662:
I remembered the stories people used to tell around the pack. They said that when Ethan was a child, he was hopeless when it came to studying. Just to avoid reading those boring classics and history books, he’d been scolded by the elders many times.
Back then, I had only laughed at those stories. But now, watching Silas, I finally understood how incredible blood ties could be.
They were truly father and son. Silas was even dozing off in class, just like his father.
My fingers lingered above the chat box for a long while before I finally typed, “How’s your recovery? Don’t forget to take your medicine on time.”

But as I looked at the message, a bitter feeling rose in my chest.
We were no longer close enough for that kind of concern to come naturally. Sending such a caring message now felt misplaced. Worse, it seemed pathetic, as though I were trying to win his favor.
I wore a self-mocking smile and immediately deleted the message.
Just as I was wondering whether I should send something else instead, a new message from Ethan popped up.
“I’ve had my injection and taken my medicine. My fever is gone, but my throat still feels a little sore.”
My fingers tightened around my phone as my face instantly flushed.
He had replied immediately. That meant he’d been watching our chat the whole time. He had definitely seen the message I’d deleted.
The thought of being caught like that made me want to disappear from embarrassment. I silently reminded myself that the next time I spoke to him, I needed to think through every word carefully and never let myself reveal such vulnerable feelings again.
To keep my mind occupied, I sent him a brief reply. Then I opened my laptop and forced my attention back to work.
The due diligence reports from my team had piled up. I reviewed each one carefully, marked every inconsistency I found, and sent out the final round of notices. By the time I finally looked up, the clock on the wall had struck midnight.
As soon as the work was done, the empty feeling returned. I instinctively reached for my phone and saw that Ethan had sent several new videos about thirty minutes earlier.
In them, both children were asleep. The camera moved slowly and carefully, as if Ethan were holding the phone while sitting beside their bed, quietly keeping watch over them.
I watched every video without saying a word. When they ended, I held my phone tightly against my chest, drawing a small but precious sense of comfort from it.
If things could stay this way forever — talking about the children once in a while without interfering in each other’s lives — then maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.
But deep inside, I knew the truth better than anyone. This fragile peace only existed because Ethan was still single.
The day he found another mate, the day a new Luna stood by his side, I would leave with no hesitation. I would take what little pride I had left with me and disappear from his life completely.
Lianne’s POV:
That night, I fell into a deep sleep, but it was restless.
