Chapter 623:
Rola’s actions had created an unbridgeable divide between Lianne and me; we could never be together. That tragedy alone was punishment enough. I would never again allow my family to dictate my choices.
Lianne’s POV
The day of Tracy’s operation had finally arrived.
A suffocating stillness filled the apartment while rain tapped endlessly against the windows outside, slow and mournful.
Tracy sat quietly before the dressing table, her face drained of color. She stared at the exhausted woman reflected in the mirror, anxiety lingering heavily in her eyes.
I approached her and rested my hands gently on her shoulders. “You’ll be okay. I’m staying beside you through all of it.”
Suddenly, a hurried knock shattered the silence.

When I answered the door, I found Jeremy standing outside the door, looking utterly worn down. Dark stubble covered his jaw, and his reddened eyes carried obvious desperation. His rough voice pleaded for a chance to speak with Tracy alone.
I looked toward Tracy. After a long breath, she gave a small nod.
Before she walked out, I reminded her softly not to let the conversation affect her condition no matter what happened.
Every passing minute afterward felt unbearably slow.
Not long later, another knock sounded. I hurried to answer it. Tracy stood there looking drained and fragile. Fatigue covered her features completely.
Behind her, Jeremy remained silent, shoulders slumped in defeat.
Lianne’s POV
The moment I looked at Tracy and Jeremy, I knew there was nothing left to salvage between them.
There had never been an ideal solution to this situation.
Jeremy could not pretend his three-year-old daughter didn’t exist. She was his child, and that would never change. As for Tracy, her pride would never allow her to accept a situation where her child was doomed to a painful and sad fate.
I reached for Tracy’s cold hand and held it. After giving Jeremy one last look, I led her into the apartment and closed the door behind us.
Once that door clicked shut, it felt like the last thread connecting them had been severed.
“Lianne…” Tracy sank into the sofa, her face filled with fear and grief. She grabbed my sleeve with trembling fingers as she searched my eyes. “Did I make the right decision? Do you think I’m doing the right thing?”
I looked at her, but I was at a loss for words.
The only thing I could do was stand by her, no matter what she decided.
Years ago, I had made a reckless decision to bring Ruby and Silas into the world. I had never once regretted having them, but I could never forget how close I had come to dying during childbirth. Neither could I forget those painful days of hiding away and struggling to survive.
More than anyone, I understood the enormous weight that came with raising a child.
That was exactly why I couldn’t make this decision for her. The consequences were far too great, and it wasn’t my place to choose her future.
I helped her settle onto the sofa, then placed a cup of warm water in her hands.
