Chapter 146

Chapter 146:
“Exactly,” Frank scoffed, and a lighter snapped open. “I was there when it happened. They responded fast, and the fire never actually got out of control. When Ivy was brought out, only the lower left leg of her pants had been scorched. At worst, it was a mild burn. There were barely any blisters.”
I came to a sudden stop. My whole body stiffened.
“Ava was obviously inflating the injury. She wanted to paint Ivy as a devoted victim. That way, Ivy could win Ethan’s sympathy and maybe land a stronger spot in the next project,” Mason said, blowing out a stream of smoke. “But honestly, Ethan fell for it completely. He stayed with her the entire night.”
“She’s so scheming. We’re nowhere near that level.”
Their footsteps slowly faded away while I stood motionless in the shadows, disbelief crashing over me.
Twenty-three percent burns? Severe tissue damage?
I pulled out my phone at once and searched for videos of last night’s incident.

The footage was blurry, but I could still see that Ivy had been able to walk on her own when she was rescued. It was nothing like the way Ava had described it.
Rage at being deceived burst through me.
I called Noah immediately, my voice cold as ice. “Noah, get me the complete surveillance footage from the time Ivy was injured. I don’t want even one second left out. And check Ava’s recent call history too.”
After hanging up, I closed my eyes and reached out to Liam through the mind link.
“Liam, get out here.”
Liam, who was at the company dealing with the aftermath, let out a stifled groan at the force of the mental contact. “Ethan? What is it?”
“Who sent you to find me yesterday? And who told you Ivy was badly hurt and in critical condition?”
Silence answered from the other end of the link.
Ethan’s POV:
Liam kept quiet for a long while.
Under my pressure, he finally came clean.
“It was Ivy. She told me to go to you,” Liam said in a low voice. “She told me to make her injuries sound as serious as possible. She said she was scared you wouldn’t come and would leave her behind.”
My heart dropped, and a cold shiver ran through me.
Ivy. The first love I had always believed was innocent and delicate had chosen this day to take advantage of Liam’s feelings for her and use him against me.
She knew I would leave Lianne the moment I heard she was injured. She had used my feelings for her to hurt Lianne.
“From now on, I don’t want to hear one more disrespectful word about Lianne.” There was a clear, unquestionable threat in my voice.
Liam froze. “Are you serious? A woman like her—”
“Enough!” I cut him off with a growl. “She’s my mate. If it happens again, you’re out of the Thorn Pack.”
Disbelief filled Liam’s voice. “Ethan, have you fallen for her?”
I froze.
Fallen for Lianne?
The image from last night rose in my mind, her standing in the bathroom doorway, the towel slipping and exposing her sexy, trembling body.
I admitted I was attracted to her body. That pull from deep inside me was almost impossible to fight.
