Chapter 973:
A short while later, his voice drifted out from behind the bathroom door. “Lianne, can you pass me a towel?”
I immediately picked up a clean one and went over. Without giving it much thought, I pushed my hand through the doorway to offer it to him.
A moment later, fingers closed around my wrist. Before I could react, I was pulled through the doorway.
Warm water cascaded over me, soaking through my pajamas almost instantly. I stared at him in disbelief before irritation took over. “Ethan! What are you…”
He caught me against the wall beneath the shower, the steady stream drenching both of us. Water ran through his hair and down my clothes as his eyes held mine with an intensity that left no room for doubt. There was an almost desperate possessiveness in his stare, as though being this close to me was the only thing capable of settling the fear inside him.

His voice emerged rough and breathless beneath the rush of water. “Lianne, promise me you’ll always be mine.”
The vulnerability beneath his words tugged painfully at my heart. I reached up, held his face between my palms, and answered without hesitation, “Ethan, in this life, I’m yours. I won’t leave you.”
He rested his forehead against mine, his breathing uneven.
For a while, neither of us spoke. Gradually, the tension in his body began to loosen.
Once the turmoil inside him had settled, his fingers moved gently across my brows. When he spoke again, the confidence he showed the rest of the world was nowhere to be found. “Lianne, do you ever think I’m too clingy? You’re beside me every single day, yet part of me still can’t believe it’s real. I’m always afraid I’ll wake up one morning and discover that you’ve disappeared.”
The uncertainty in his eyes made something inside me soften. I let out a quiet, helpless laugh.
To everyone else, Ethan was untouchable. He had the kind of authority that made people instinctively keep their distance. Yet whenever it came to me, that formidable man became nervous, insecure, and almost painfully afraid of losing the person he loved.
I rose onto my toes and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips. Holding his gaze, I told him firmly, “Ethan, you’re not clingy. You’re simply hopelessly in love with me.”
He stared at me for a beat, apparently caught off guard. Then he lowered his head and tucked his face against my neck. “Yeah,” he murmured. Silence settled over the bathroom, broken only by the steady patter of water and the sound of our breathing mingling together.
Ethan’s POV:
Several days later, Melisa’s fertile window arrived.
I was halfway through a meeting at Voss Group when my phone buzzed against the table. I glanced down and found a message from Melisa. She had already reserved a hotel room and was waiting there for me so we could proceed with the conception plan. My expression did not change. I slipped the phone away and continued leading the meeting as though nothing had happened.
