Chapter 613:
But the moment my hand reached the cold doorknob, a large, warm hand wrapped firmly around my wrist.
I was startled. When I turned around, I found myself staring into Ethan’s dark eyes.
I had not even noticed that he was awake. He stood quietly in the dim light, fixing his sharp gaze on me.
“Where are you going?” he asked, his voice rough with restrained emotion.
“I… I was going to check on the children next door,” I replied awkwardly. I couldn’t even meet his gaze.
“Liar.” Ethan immediately saw through me. He said in a low, sad tone, “You’re trying to leave.”
Before I could say anything in my defense, Ethan suddenly pulled me back. The force caught me off guard, and I stumbled straight into his solid arms.
While I was trying to steady myself, his lips met mine. He began to kiss me desperately and aggressively.

It felt as though he was letting out all the emotions he had buried deep inside for so long.
He pried open my lips, stealing every breath from me.
In that moment, Ethan seemed to have lost all restraint.
His arms tightened around me, and the warmth of his touch sent shivers through my body.
At first, I panicked. I pressed both hands against his chest and tried to pull away from the tempting situation.
But when my tears slipped into our entwined mouths, the sour taste destroyed all my defenses.
Slowly, I lifted my arms and wrapped them around his neck. I tilted my head back and gave in to his intense longing, allowing myself to drown in this fleeting, last moment of pleasure.
Outside the window, the moon hung in the night sky.
In this small, confined space, we cast aside all resentment and forgot our responsibilities, leaving only two broken hearts slamming wildly against each other.
After a long time, we collapsed on the bed, struggling to catch our breath.
My body felt completely drained. I could barely move. I forced myself upright, thinking about taking a shower to wash away the scent of him that lingered on my skin.
Before I could get up, Ethan turned and pulled me back against him, trapping me securely in his arms.
“Don’t go.” His breath brushed against my ear as he pleaded, “Please… stay with me a little longer.”
I went still as he buried his face in my neck.
This was the last night we’d get to hold each other.
I fixed my gaze on the sky, which was beginning to brighten.
I knew that when morning came, I’d have to go.
And then we would go our separate ways for good.
When I opened my eyes again, the wild passion of the previous night felt like a dream.
Ethan had gotten dressed. He sat quietly on the sofa, waiting for me.
He looked no different from his usual cold, collected, and unapproachable self.
His gaze swept briefly over me. Then he said casually, “Get ready and come with me.”
“Where to?” I asked warily. My voice was hoarse as I spoke.
