Chapter 919:
I frowned and pressed my palm against my chest. I couldn’t explain the strange sensation either. Why did I suddenly feel so unsettled?
Before I could make sense of it, my phone began ringing. I glanced down. Noah. I froze. Since Ethan and I had ended our relationship, I hadn’t spoken to anyone from his side. So why was Noah suddenly calling me?
A sense of foreboding settled over me. After hesitating for a moment, I finally answered.
Noah sounded completely unlike himself. His voice was frantic, almost panicked. “Could you please come to the top floor? Alpha is in really bad shape. He’s in terrible pain and looks like he’s about to collapse, but he refuses to go to the hospital. No matter what I say, he won’t listen.”
My heart lurched. Every instinct inside me told me to go to him immediately. But I forced myself to stop.

Ethan and I had already ended things. We were no longer connected. If he needed someone beside him now, that person should be Melisa. Not me.
I hardened my heart. “Noah, you should call Melisa.” My voice deliberately remained cold. “Don’t call me.”
“Ms. Riley!”
“I’m sorry, but there’s nothing I can do.”
I was about to end the call when a violent crash suddenly exploded through the receiver.
The sound of breaking glass made me freeze. Then Noah’s terrified voice rang out. “Alpha! Alpha, are you alright?”
My fingers tightened around the phone.
“Noah?” There was no answer. “Noah!” I called his name several times. All I heard was a jumble of chaotic sounds, followed by heavy, uneven breathing.
That was enough. Every bit of hesitation disappeared. I dropped the phone onto my desk and rushed out of the office.
When the elevator finally opened on the top floor, I was met with complete disorder.
Broken glass covered the hallway. Files had been scattered everywhere. The decorative paintings were hanging crookedly, and one had crashed completely to the floor, its frame broken apart.
I stepped over the broken glass and hurried over, only to find the office door already wide open. To my horror, the floor-to-ceiling window had been shattered; icy wind poured through the gap, whipping the curtains wildly into the air.
Noah was crouched in the corner, struggling to lift Ethan, who lay curled on the floor.
“Call an ambulance!” I yelled, sprinting over and dropping to my knees beside them. I scooped the fragile Ethan into my arms.
His body burned with a terrifying fever, yet his face was ghostly pale, his lips cracked, and his breath came in short, ragged gasps.
The sight of him like that made my chest tighten as if caught in a vise.
At that moment, the panic surging through me was even more overwhelming than when he’d first mentioned breaking up.
“Ethan! Ethan!” My voice shook as I called out to him, my hands trembling as I patted his cheek. “Wake up! Look at me!”
Relief washed over me when his eyes finally flickered open.
