Chapter 382:
Ivy froze for the briefest second. It was subtle. But I caught it. Then she quickly lowered her eyes and forced more tears out. “I… the hospital called me,” she stammered weakly. “Jeremy listed me as his emergency contact… He even pinned my number at the top…”
I narrowed my eyes slowly. Disgust rose instantly inside me.
Not a single word sounded believable.
Jeremy could be reckless, shameless, and a complete idiot when it came to chasing women.
But he wasn’t stupid enough to list Ivy as his emergency contact. He had already warned me about her scheming nature.
And besides, from the moment the accident happened to the time I arrived at the hospital, less than twenty minutes had passed. There was no way the hospital’s procedures could have moved that fast.
“Ethan, this really isn’t the time to focus on that,” Ivy said anxiously. “Jeremy is still inside the operating room. I’m terrified something might happen to him…”
As she spoke, she reached for my arm again. I avoided her coldly once more.

“Did you notify Jeremy’s parents?” I asked, my voice flat and icy.
“I did,” Ivy replied quickly, wiping at her tears. “But neither of them answered. Their phones are probably turned off because they’re on a flight.”
I let out a quiet, mocking laugh. Then, right in front of her, I slowly pulled my phone from my pocket and dialed a number.
The call connected almost immediately. Jeremy’s father’s deep, steady voice sounded through the receiver. “Ethan? Why are you calling this late? What happened?”
I stared directly at Ivy. Her face had already turned deathly pale. “Nothing urgent, sir,” I said calmly. “I just wanted to confirm your travel arrangements. We’ll talk later.”
I ended the call. Then I took one deliberate step toward Ivy. The pressure radiating from my Alpha instincts crashed down upon her like an invisible mountain. Her breathing instantly became uneven.
“Jeremy’s accident…” My voice dropped dangerously low. “You had something to do with it, didn’t you?”
I grabbed Ivy by the chin, squeezing so hard it seemed I could shatter her bones. My voice sank into a threatening snarl. “He already warned me about you. So you’d better start talking. Tell me every last thing, or you won’t survive until dawn.”
“I didn’t… Ethan, you’ve got it all wrong! I would never hurt him…” Tears poured down Ivy’s cheeks as she frantically tried to justify herself.
“You never called his father,” I cut in, tearing through her weak act. “Ivy, my patience is wearing thin. Out with it. What exactly are you up to?”
Her lie shattered, Ivy’s feigned weakness vanished on the spot.
A cold, eerie laugh rose from her throat, bouncing off the empty corridor walls.
She raised her head, her eyes burning with the desperate intensity of a gambler pushing all his chips to the center of the table.
“You’ve been investigating that little boy, haven’t you?” she whispered, drawing close to my ear. Then her next words struck me like a bolt from the blue. “Stop digging, Ethan. I’m telling you the truth. That child was born to me.”
Ethan’s POV
Ivy’s words stunned me into stillness.
