Chapter 177:
I stood outside his office door, holding the papers I had just taken from my bag for his signature.
A few minutes earlier, Nancy had gone inside.
Soon after, the door opened.
Nancy came out, and the anger on her usually flawless face was so intense it had nearly twisted her features.

I walked past her with a composed expression and was just about to open the door when she suddenly stepped in front of me and blocked my way.
“Do you need something?” I stopped and looked at her with a faint smile.
Nancy didn’t answer. Her eyes were icy and vicious as they traveled slowly over me from head to toe.
In the end, her gaze fixed on the spot just below my ear. I knew there was a love bite there, only half hidden by my collar.
Ethan had left it there last night when things got out of control.
Lianne’s POV:
I watched Nancy’s hands ball into fists so tightly that her nails carved marks into her palms. Her stare was razor-sharp, practically dripping with malice.
“I really didn’t expect you to be so scheming.” Her voice sank into a rough whisper, heavy with hatred. “You actually managed to get into Ethan’s bed. Lianne, just wait. This isn’t finished!”
She threw me one last vicious look, then spun around and stalked off, her heels striking the floor in furious, rapid clicks.
As I watched her retreating, disordered figure, all I felt was irony.
She had gone to so much trouble to drug Ethan, planning to climb into his bed herself, only for fate to turn the blade on her. In the end, she had accidentally handed me the very chance that tightened my already crumbling bond with Ethan.
I drew in a breath and knocked on the door.
“Come in.”
I pushed the door open. Ethan was seated behind his desk, the top buttons of his shirt left undone, giving off that lazy but dangerous Alpha presence that always seemed to thin the air around him.
“Did you need something?” I asked as I stopped in front of the desk, keeping my tone entirely businesslike.
Ethan put down his fountain pen and lifted his eyes to me. A trace of softness, almost too faint to catch, passed through his gaze.
“I just issued Nancy’s transfer order,” he said lightly. “She can either keep her current title at one of the branch subsidiaries, or stay at headquarters after being demoted. She doesn’t get another option.”
I paused, caught off guard. Nancy had been deeply established in the company, yet he had dealt with her this quickly?
“I asked you to stay so I could tell you that she won’t have another chance to trouble you.” Ethan rose from his chair and came around the desk toward me.
“I never paid much attention to her little provocations,” I answered calmly, passing him a folder. “This is the updated schedule for the Sparkle project, along with a few contracts that need your signature. I’ve already reviewed them. There aren’t any problems.”
