Chapter 103:
“That young man seems wonderful. Good looks, and a good temperament too.” Rola watched Frank’s retreating figure with a pleased expression.
“He is,” I replied without much thought. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught Ethan’s expression darkening.
“Lianne, you should go rest as well. Your eyes haven’t fully recovered yet, so don’t strain them.” Rola reached over, patted my hand, then looked at Ethan. “Ethan, take her home.”
I wanted to stay a little longer with Harold, but before I could speak, Ethan was already on his feet.
He walked over and spoke in a tone that left no space for refusal. “We’re leaving.”

Harold gave a small wave, signaling us to go.
With no choice, I pressed my lips together and followed Ethan out.
When we arrived home, I stopped in place and spoke without turning around. “You can go back. My eyes are almost fine. I don’t need you here.”
He didn’t answer. Instead, he guided me straight into the master bedroom.
The lights came on the moment he reached for the switch.
Before I could react, he closed the door behind us and stepped closer, leaving me with nowhere to move.
“Why didn’t you answer your phone?” he asked, his voice tight.
I turned my face away. “It ran out of battery.”
“Out of battery?” Ethan let out a quiet laugh and stepped closer. “I’ve been trying to reach you for so long. Lianne, I even thought you might do something rash because of everything people are saying online.”
He paused, then spoke again, his voice lowering. “About the situation online, I owe you an apology. Ivy is in the public eye. Her reputation affects the company, and I can’t let her carry all that negative attention.”
I held his gaze, my expression steady, though something inside me tightened more than I expected.
An apology?
He had chosen to protect Ivy without hesitation. He let me become the target of ridicule, someone people mocked openly.
And now, he thought a few words could make it right?
“Apologies lose their meaning when you say them too often.” I pressed my hand against his chest and stepped away. I walked to the window and looked out into the dark night. “Do I look like I’m waiting for one from you?”
“Then tell me what you want,” he said, weariness slipping into his voice. “If it’s something I can do, I’ll make it happen.”
I turned back to face him. For three years, this was the man I had given everything to.
“Fine,” I said, forcing a faint smile. There was a quiet heaviness behind it. “Then promise me one thing. I haven’t decided what I want yet, but don’t worry. I’m not going to come between you and Ivy.”
A slight crease formed between his brows, as if he was trying to read between my words.
After a pause, he nodded. “Alright. I promise.”
He had no idea what I actually wanted. It wasn’t money. It wasn’t status.
I looked down and let my hand rest over my stomach, gently comforting the baby inside.
