Chapter 766:
“Go on, Lianne,” she said without wasting a moment. “Tell me how much it will take for you to disappear from our lives completely. I have no time to waste with you here.”
Ignoring her words, I met her gaze directly. “Rola, I only want to know the truth. Why did you have to destroy my father all those years ago?”
Rola let out a cold, mocking laugh, as if my question were the funniest thing she’d ever heard.
“The truth?” she sneered, her eyes as cold as ice. “The truth is that your father’s life meant nothing. If he hadn’t been holding things that could threaten Ethan’s inheritance, I wouldn’t have wasted my time dealing with him.”
She paused, then continued, her voice growing even harsher, filled with undisguised hatred. “I thought you knew your place and would quietly stay by Ethan’s side. Harold cared about you, so I decided to show you some kindness. But look at you. You’ve repaid me with nothing but ingratitude. If I’d known you would turn out this way, I never would have treated you so well.”
My heart turned ice-cold.
To people like them, who saw themselves as above everyone else, my father’s life had meant nothing. Neither did mine.
Ethan’s POV
Throughout the layover, a heavy sense of unease clung tightly to me.
Before boarding the flight, I kept reminding Noah. “Watch Lianne closely. If she does anything unusual, let me know right away.”
Later, I heard that she had only gone downstairs for a walk and spent time cleaning the house. There was nothing suspicious about her behavior, and I finally managed to relax a little.

Maybe I was just overthinking it?
But that fragile relief disappeared the moment my plane touched down.
Immediately after I got off, Tim called.
He hesitated for a few seconds, then said, “Alpha, something doesn’t feel right. Lianne never planned to file an appeal in the first place. Since the verdict, she’s been far too calm. Her demeanor doesn’t match her usual headstrong personality.”
My heart jumped, and a cold wave of fear spread through my body.
I knew Lianne well enough to understand that she would never give up so easily.
Unless… she had never planned to seek justice through the legal route at all.
I ended the call without another word and immediately called Philip. My voice shook as I spoke. “Where’s Rola? Tell me now!”
“Ethan? You’re back? Rola just left by herself for a meeting. She said she had some personal business to take care of…”
“Who is she meeting? Where?” I snapped, cutting him off as panic threatened to consume me. “Philip, track Rola’s live location and send it to me immediately. Don’t waste a single second. Hurry!”
At that moment, all I could do was pray that Lianne hadn’t made a reckless decision.
Lianne’s POV
Rola sat across from me, her carefully made-up face twisted with contempt.
She reached into her handbag, took out a check, tapped it lightly with one finger, and pushed it across the table. The way she looked at me was no different from someone tossing scraps to a stray animal.
