Chapter 854:
Ethan’s POV
“Lianne!”
I couldn’t have cared less about the eyes watching me as I rushed forward, bent down, and lifted Lianne into my arms.
Her body was frighteningly limp, as though every bit of strength had been drained from her. She felt so light in my arms that it sent a wave of unease through me.
Her warm blood slowly seeped through the thin fabric of her clothes, staining my white shirt red. The heat burned against my skin, making my heart ache.
My eyes burned with anguish as I shouted at the medical staff nearby, “Hurry! What are you waiting for? Help her!”
The medics finally snapped out of their shock and quickly brought over a stretcher.

“Lianne, you’ll be okay. Don’t be afraid. I’m right here with you.” I carefully lowered her onto the stretcher, but I couldn’t bring myself to let go of her hand. I held tightly onto her cold fingers.
Inside the ambulance, I sat beside her, holding her hand tightly. But her fingers remained ice-cold, and no matter how tightly I held them, she gave no reaction.
I lowered my head and pressed my lips against her clammy forehead. My voice came out rough and hoarse as I said, “Lianne, please, don’t go. I don’t think I’d have the strength to keep going if you were gone.”
She didn’t respond. She simply lay there in silence, looking as though she had fallen into a peaceful sleep.
But I knew the truth. The poison had spread throughout her body.
The red emergency light above the operating room came on, and the heavy doors closed firmly between us.
I stood there, staring at that harsh red light, feeling as though every breath had been ripped from my lungs.
Noah arrived soon after. The moment he saw the bloodstain covering my shirt, the color drained from his face.
He opened his mouth as though he wanted to say something, but in the end, he said nothing. He simply came to stand beside me.
I clenched my fists as regret and fear surged through me like a violent tide.
I hated myself for not being more forceful when I tried to stop Lianne. I hated myself for giving in whenever she pleaded with me. Most of all, I hated myself for allowing her to push her body, still recovering as it was, beyond its limits.
I shut my eyes and drew in a deep breath, forcing the anger boiling inside me back down. When I opened my eyes again, they were filled with cold determination.
I turned toward Noah and said coldly, “Bring Melisa here immediately. I don’t care what you have to do. Just make sure Lianne survives.”
Noah nodded and left immediately.
I turned my attention back to the tightly sealed emergency room doors, my fists still clenched at my sides.
If Lianne died, then all the compromises would have been pointless.
