Chapter 603:
My fingers tightened around my phone. Refusing to accept it, I asked, “Frank, are you sure? Is there any chance this is all a misunderstanding?”
Even now, I was still pathetically searching for reasons to defend Ethan.
“Lianne, stop fooling yourself.” Frank’s voice was calm and piercing. “The order came directly from Thorn Pack. Ethan ordered them to intercept it. The original footage ended up with him. By now, he could’ve gotten rid of it. He took it to cover for someone from the Thorn Pack, maybe Rola.”
I ended the call abruptly. I struggled to breathe, clutching at my chest. Every breath sent pain through my entire body.
Everything fell into place: why Ethan had come back the other day looking so disturbed that he’d coughed up blood, why he’d held me and whispered apologies over and over, why he had refused to meet my eyes this morning and hid behind the excuse of a confidential meeting.

He had known the truth about my father’s death.
“Mom?” Ruby’s small, hesitant voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
She lightly tugged on my hand.
“Go find the butler. You and Silas should return to your rooms.”
The words slipped out through clenched teeth. I sounded so cold.
Without sparing them another glance, I turned and headed for the hospital wing.
The elevator ride felt endless. Every passing second stretched unbearably long.
The moment I arrived outside the hospital room, I slammed my fist on the door with all the strength I had.
The door opened immediately.
Ethan stood before me, still dressed in the dark blue silk robe I had helped him put on earlier.
The collar was slightly loose, exposing part of his well-built chest. He carried the same familiar presence he always had, distant and composed, with effortless elegance.
There had been a time when that side of him drew me in completely. Now, it only filled me with disgust.
Ethan met my gaze calmly. He didn’t look surprised. “Lianne, you’re back.”
He stepped to the side and said softly, “Come inside.”
“Where is the disk?” I didn’t move. My eyes remained fixed on him. My voice shook as I fought to stay composed. “Frank told me your people took it. Ethan, give it to me.”
He said nothing. A storm seemed to flash briefly through those deep green eyes.
Ethan reached toward me to take my wrist. “Let’s go inside and talk.”
“Don’t touch me!” I jerked away so violently that he lost his balance for a moment.
I remained planted at the entrance. “Answer me. Where is the disk?”
The corridor fell into a suffocating silence.
After what felt like forever, he finally spoke. “It’s gone.”
Just two simple words. However, they broke the last piece of hope I had been clinging to.
I stared at him, stunned. For a brief moment, my mind went totally blank.
I had prepared myself for excuses, the denial, the claim that he didn’t have the disk.
But he admitted it outright. With no hesitation or remorse. He calmly told me he had destroyed it.
