Chapter 484:
If Ethan had never come into my life, perhaps I would have ended up like Melisa, resigned to a future filled with loneliness.
Melisa’s hands paused. She looked up at me, genuine emotion in her eyes. “The Alpha is willing to give his life to protect you. Even the head witch admitted that a love so sincere and selfless is among the purest soul connections she’s witnessed in hundreds of years.”
I smiled faintly. At the same time, warmth and sadness swirled inside my heart.
To everyone else, Ethan was the powerful Alpha who stood above all others. The ruthless leader whose authority could not be challenged. The decisive man who never hesitated when making difficult choices.
But I was the only person who had ever seen him at his clumsiest. I had watched him stand in the kitchen, determined to cook stew for me, only to end up with burns covering both hands.
I had also seen his most fragile side. In the darkness of a rain-soaked night, he had held me tightly and pleaded with me not to leave him.
Even while unconscious, his fingers had clung stubbornly to my clothes, as though he feared I might vanish the moment he let go.
I was lost in thought until Melisa’s voice brought me back.

“There, all done.” Melisa secured the last layer of fresh bandages around my leg and flashed a teasing smile. “Now hurry back. He’s been waiting for you in his room. Just don’t let him find out anything unusual, or he’ll end up giving us another headache.”
I smiled back and nodded. After thanking her, I wheeled myself out of the examination room.
The instant I pushed open the soundproof hospital door, I was met with the comforting aroma of freshly made food.
I paused in surprise. My eyes moved across the spacious room and settled on the dining table, where several elegant insulated containers sat neatly arranged.
Ethan was still lying in bed with his eyes shut. He appeared to be asleep.
But after I closed the door, his long lashes trembled slightly. Then his low, hoarse voice broke the silence. “You’re back, Lianne.”
He hadn’t even opened his eyes. Just from the rhythm of my breathing and the faint trace of my scent, he recognized me immediately.
I wheeled myself closer to the bed and reached out to touch his forehead.
His elevated temperature made my heart skip a beat, but after a moment of checking, I realized it wasn’t a fever.
“Why haven’t you eaten yet? The doctor said you need proper nutrition,” I said, reaching for one of the insulated containers, intending to feed him some food.
“That’s not for me.” He opened his eyes and looked at me warmly. “It’s yours. I remember your stomach isn’t very strong. You can’t stay hungry too long, especially in the cold. You spent hours in that freezing wind today and barely ate anything. If you keep doing that, your stomach will start hurting again.”
My hand paused as I opened the containers.
Inside were steak, salad, and a bowl of oatmeal porridge. All my favorites.
