Chapter 699:
He raised his hand, his rough thumb lightly brushing my cheek as he gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear.
Every movement was slow and careful, and the tenderness in his eyes was so deep it felt almost reverent.
“Lianne,” he murmured softly, “look at me.”
I slowly raised my head and met his deep eyes.

“I failed you before. I made you suffer until alcohol became your only comfort,” he said, wrapping my hand in his. His voice was hoarse, and every word sounded sincere. “From now on, whatever you want, I’ll make sure you have it. As long as I’m alive, I will never fail you again.”
Overcome with emotion, my eyes began to well up with tears. Unable to face him, I lowered my gaze once more.
By the time night settled over Brinewick, the cool sea breeze had completely swept away the heat of the day.
Jeremy had truly gone all out. Besides preparing an incredible barbecue spread, he had also built a bonfire in the middle of the lawn.
Golden flames flickered in the dark, casting a warm glow over everyone. Coupled with the sound of waves crashing in the distance, the atmosphere felt cozy and intimate. The setting couldn’t have been more perfect.
After everyone finished eating, we gathered around the bonfire.
Still full of energy, Tracy eagerly suggested we play Truth or Dare.
The children had exhausted themselves from playing and were already sleeping soundly inside the nearby tent. Not wanting to ruin everyone’s fun, I agreed with a nod.
Ethan sat beside me, the firelight outlining the sharp contours of his face. In his usual calm tone, he simply said, “I’m fine with whatever.”
An empty bottle spun quickly across the wooden board, making a light whirring sound.
In the first round, the bottle came to a stop with its neck pointing directly at Jeremy.
Without hesitation, he chose truth.
A mischievous grin spread across Tracy’s face as she showed him no mercy. “Alright, tell us. How old were you when you lost your virginity?”
The entire place immediately fell into dead silence, aside from the crackling of wood popping in the bonfire.
Jeremy’s face flushed a vivid red. After enduring Tracy’s intimidating stare for a while, he finally muttered, “Sixteen…”
“Seriously, Jeremy? I never would’ve guessed you started that early,” Tracy said with a laugh, sending everyone into fits of laughter.
The bottle was spun once more. After twirling around a few times, it gradually slowed, then stopped with its neck pointed at Ethan.
He immediately chose truth as well.
Finally getting a chance to tease his friend, Jeremy leaned closer with a knowing grin. “Alright, Ethan. Answer this. Is Lianne the love of your life?”
Everyone immediately looked on with eager expressions, waiting to hear his answer.
My face grew so hot it felt as though the bonfire was burning on my skin. Instinctively, I opened my mouth, ready to stop the conversation before it became even more awkward.
“Well…” Ethan paused.
The entire group fell silent. Even Tracy’s grin disappeared as she stared at him in surprise.
