Chapter 532:
The moment our eyes met, I saw nothing but myself reflected in his gaze. His attention was so unwavering it felt as though he couldn’t see the rest of the world.
He lifted a hand, gently cradled the back of my head, pulled me closer, and placed his forehead on mine. His voice was deep and firm, yet filled with affection.
“Lianne, don’t try to test me with things like that. I was thinking about this afternoon’s video conference. Other than you, I wasn’t paying attention to anyone else in the room, let alone what they were wearing.” His warm breath brushed against my lips, and the possessive look in his eyes made my heart jump. “You’re the only one who has ever caught my eye. That has never changed and never will. So stop worrying, okay?”
My heart skipped a beat. Staring into his eyes at such close range, I finally voiced the question that had lingered in my mind for a long time. “Ethan, why me? In terms of family status, bloodline, or what I could contribute to the pack, I can’t compare to Melisa.”
For a few seconds, he said nothing. Then a faint, self-mocking smile appeared on his face. “I don’t know how to explain it either. If love could be explained, I wouldn’t have spent all these years searching for you, losing my mind. Maybe the Moon Goddess decided you were meant to be my mate.”
His answer immediately sent warmth rushing to my face. Embarrassed, I quickly pulled away and grabbed my phone, hoping to distract myself.
Just then, several photos appeared on the screen. They were from Tracy.
“Look at this. This is the guy my mom introduced me to. He’s actually pretty handsome. An architect who studied abroad.”
I was still looking at the photo when a large hand suddenly reached over and took the phone from me.
“What has your attention so fixed?” Ethan asked with a frown as he glanced at the screen. The instant he saw the picture, his expression soured. “Who is this guy? He looks like one of those spoiled pretty boys. What’s so special about him?”

I let out a helpless sigh and reached for my phone. “That’s Tracy’s blind date. She sent me the photos to share the update. Why are you jealous over something like this?”
“I don’t care whose date he is.” Ethan casually raised the phone higher, making full use of his height advantage. “I’m your mate, and I don’t like seeing you stare at another man. Delete the photos. Don’t look at them anymore.”
His unreasonable behavior was so childish I almost laughed in frustration. “Alright, alright. I’ll delete them,” I said, humoring him. “I’m only happy for Tracy. Over the years, she’s sacrificed so much of her time to help me raise Ruby and Silas. I’ve always felt bad about that.”
At the mention of Tracy’s name, Ethan’s expression changed subtly. After a moment of silence, he said, “Do you really think there’s no possibility between her and Jeremy?”
