Chapter 586:
Silence swallowed the room whole.
I lowered the pastry onto the plate without saying anything.
Ethan held my gaze steadily. “Grandma turned her over to me. She’s locked away now. Tell me what you want, Lianne. If you want revenge, if you want punishment, if you want her erased entirely, I’ll take care of it.”
The atmosphere grew unbearably heavy.
At last, I said calmly, “I want the pack council to judge her. She violated Thorn Pack law and deeply hurt both you and me. Hurting her myself might feel satisfying for a moment, but that’s not enough. I want everyone to hear what she’s done. I want every crime exposed publicly.”
He studied my face in silence before exhaling quietly. Then he drew me against him, one hand resting behind my head. “Okay. We’ll handle it your way.”
That was Ethan. No matter how serious the matter, he always bent for me without hesitation.
The following morning arrived wrapped in unusually brilliant sunlight.
I sat near the window with a book when my phone suddenly rang.
“Lianne! Jeremy proposed!” Tracy nearly squealed through the speaker, happiness pouring from every word along with embarrassed laughter. “That fool did it in front of practically everyone at the gathering. I wanted the ground to swallow me alive, but… I still accepted.”
A real smile spread across my face for the first time in what felt like forever. “I’m happy for you, Tracy. I know Jeremy used to mess around, but he’s changed. I know how much he cares about you now.”

Just then, Ethan moved beside me and slipped his fingers through my hair, slowly rubbing circles against my scalp.
After catching enough of the conversation, he leaned close and whispered near my ear, “My injuries should be healed by then. I’ll attend the engagement celebration with you.”
My fingers tightened around the phone instantly, my smile faltering.
He wanted to attend the engagement celebration with me…
But the future I’d been secretly planning looked completely different. By the time the party arrived, I might have disappeared with our children and left Ethan behind forever.
The thought pressed against my chest until breathing became difficult.
Ethan’s eyes sharpened immediately. The change in my demeanor had not gone unnoticed by him. “What’s wrong? You suddenly look sick.”
Concern creased his forehead as he stopped touching my hair.
I inhaled carefully, forcing myself to remain composed. Then I finally revealed the suspicion I’d buried for so long. “Ethan… I don’t think my father’s death was accidental.”
While speaking, I searched his expression carefully, waiting for guilt, panic, anything suspicious to flash across his face.
But there was nothing.
He merely stilled for a second before his features softened again.
“Then look into it. If something feels wrong, don’t ignore it. Find the answers you need. Whatever problems appear along the way, I’ll deal with them beside you,” he said gently.
