Chapter 702:
He answered immediately. The warmth on his face disappeared in an instant. His entire demeanor turned cold enough to freeze the room.
“Proceed exactly as planned,” he instructed in a calm, emotionless voice. “Show no mercy.” A brief pause followed. “Ivy crossed a line. She’ll have to deal with what comes next.”
Even from several feet away, the quiet authority in his tone sent a chill through me. This was the Ethan people feared.
Yet the moment he looked up and saw me standing there, the icy expression melted away as though it had never existed. The warmth returned to his eyes so naturally that the contrast left me uneasy.
“You’re awake.” He closed the laptop and gently pushed a breakfast cart toward me. “I made breakfast around seven. Eat before it gets cold.”
Unable to face the unmistakable tenderness in his gaze, I quickly lowered my head and focused on my meal instead.
While I slept, he’d already arranged for someone to look after Ruby and Silas. The twins were happily building sandcastles on the beach below.

After breakfast, Tracy finally appeared in the group chat, enthusiastically suggesting everyone hike the hill behind the resort.
Watching her boundless energy despite her pregnancy left me genuinely impressed. When I had been carrying the twins, constant nausea and swollen feet had made even walking a challenge.
Meanwhile, Ethan calmly gathered the breakfast dishes. Catching me staring toward the hillside outside, he smiled. “If you get tired halfway up,” he said casually, “I’ll carry you.”
“You should worry about yourself first,” I replied. “You’re still recovering.”
He arched an eyebrow before leaning closer with a playful grin. “After last night,” he murmured, “I’d say you’ve already seen how well I’m recovering.”
Heat instantly rushed to my cheeks.
Once we stepped outside, my curiosity finally got the better of me. I gently tugged on his sleeve. “Ethan.” He looked down at me. “What was that phone call about?” I asked softly. “What happened to Ivy?”
He stopped walking. Meeting my questioning gaze, he let out a quiet sigh. “Alright,” he said at last. “I’ll tell you everything.”
Ethan’s POV:
Lianne’s eyes flew open in surprise as she silently waited for my response.
I gently ran my hand over the top of her head, keeping my voice composed as I revealed the ugly truth. “Ivy attempted to seduce a guard, hoping it would get her out. She was caught red-handed and has now been confined inside a silver cage.”
Lianne immediately sensed something didn’t add up. She knitted her brows together, her voice firm. “Ivy is much too prideful to throw herself at an ordinary guard. Ethan, something isn’t right.”
A frosty chuckle escaped my lips as I idly twirled a lock of her hair around my finger.
Lianne was still far too soft-hearted, too innocent to understand how far a desperate woman backed into a corner would go.
Ivy was wagering everything on the faintest chance of staying alive.
