Chapter 280

Chapter 280:
I knew Noah was waiting for the question I had asked without fail for three years, the one he could only answer the same way every time.
Silence stretched across my mind, heavy and unspoken.
Finally, I spoke, my voice taut with strain.
“Still no word on Lianne?”
“No. Nothing so far.” Noah’s tone carried a subtle blend of hesitation and sympathy. “Alpha, it’s been three years. If she insists on hiding, should we still keep looking?”
“Yes.” I said only that one word, firm and absolute, leaving no opening for argument.
After ending the link, I could almost picture the helpless expression on Noah’s face at the other end.
But I could not stop. I dared not.

Ever since I had severed the bond with Lianne at the Moon Goddess Altar three years ago, my world had descended into absolute silence. I could feel none of her emotions, none of her presence, not even the direction she had taken.
I had witnessed countless Alphas who had lost their fated mates. Some spiraled into madness, while others decayed slowly under the weight of endless despair.
Back then, I had observed them with a detached eye, thinking their suffering marked weakness.
But now, I felt with piercing clarity the unbearable agony of having half my soul ripped away.
That pain did not kill, yet it gnawed at every waking moment of my existence.
The car eased slowly into the Voss estate.
Rola stood at the villa entrance, hands planted firmly on her hips, ready to scold me, a scene I had grown accustomed to over the past three years.
The moment I stepped out, she strode forward in her high heels, her voice sharp and demanding. “Ethan! Have you found Lianne?”
At the sound of her name, my eyes narrowed, and a thin, sharp pang stabbed my chest.
I passed her by, moving inside, my voice composed as ever. “Not yet.”
“Not yet?” Rola’s voice rose, anger spilling over. “Then what about the rumors circulating outside? They claim you’ve taken a new fated mate abroad on a vacation! Who is she? And what about Lianne?”
I paused, taking in her flustered expression, and spoke with calm precision. “There is no new mate.”
Those whispers had been of my own fabrication.
I had intentionally created the illusion that I had moved on, found a new mate, and spent months overseas without showing my face. I thought that if Lianne was still tracking my life, if even a trace of resentment or anger lingered in her, she would inevitably reveal herself and return to confront me.
But I had been wrong.
For all these years, she had disappeared as though she had vanished from the world entirely. No matter how I tempted her, how I staged my acts, she never responded.
My scheme had failed, achieving almost nothing.
Rola stood frozen, her eyes wide in disbelief. After a long pause, she finally exploded, shouting, “Ethan, you’ve lost your mind! What if you’ve enraged Lianne completely? I’m telling you, apart from Lianne, I won’t accept anyone else into this family! You have to find her!”
