Chapter 694:
Standing on the boardwalk once again, I looked across the lively shopping street that had finally been completed, and a wave of emotions swept over me.
The last time I was there, the area was nothing but a construction site filled with steel bars and concrete. Now I had returned as a visitor, standing on the very ground that had once borne witness to all my hard work.
Tracy was even more excited than Ruby and Silas. She kept pointing toward the enormous Ferris wheel in the distance, practically skipping with excitement. Jeremy stayed glued to her side the entire time, one arm wrapped securely around her waist as he carefully shielded the expectant mother from the bustling crowd.
The four of them walked ahead, stopping from time to time to look around, while Ethan and I followed behind slowly, holding hands.
Sunlight shone on the surface of the sea, making the water glisten beautifully.
Ethan suddenly let out a soft sigh. His fingertips gently traced across my palm as he spoke in a deep, soothing voice. “I used to imagine spending the rest of my life walking beside you like this, hand in hand. But we’ve lost so much time apart.”
I looked over at him and found nothing but regret in his eyes.

It was as though he blamed himself for everything. He regretted not standing by my side sooner, not protecting me more firmly, and letting so many misunderstandings come between us.
“Lianne, will you stay with me for the rest of our lives?” He halted and looked at me with unwavering intensity, his eyes filled with a longing so deep it bordered on obsession.
My emotions churned as the sea breeze blew my hair around.
A lifetime promise was simply too much for me to make right now.
I lowered my eyes to avoid his gaze and answered softly, “Give me a little more time. I need more time before I can give you my answer.”
“Hey! You two! Stop lagging behind! We’re getting barbecue!” Jeremy called from ahead, waving enthusiastically for us to catch up.
Embarrassed, I tried to slip my hand out of Ethan’s, but he held on even tighter.
Obviously, he wanted to make our seven-day relationship feel as real as possible. Unbothered by the people around us, he kept my hand firmly in his and led me forward.
In that moment, the lively sounds surrounding us seemed to fade into the background. The air between us felt charged, and we moved like two people deeply in love. It was warm and sweet, yet beneath it lingered a faint sadness.
Before long, Ruby began rubbing her sleepy eyes, while Tracy, worn out from her pregnancy, was clearly running low on energy as well.
We agreed to return to the hotel so everyone could get some rest.
As soon as we stepped out of the car, our eye-catching group drew plenty of curious glances from people passing by.
I immediately lifted one hand to shield Ruby’s sleeping face while carrying her into the hotel room. Ethan stayed right beside me, reaching ahead to hold the door open.
