Chapter 903:
Ethan’s POV:
I never expected Lianne to come back to Voss Group. And I certainly hadn’t anticipated that she would arrive at precisely the moment Noah was escorting Melisa upstairs.
When Noah buzzed me over the intercom to let me know Lianne was also in the lobby, my hand stopped cold. For a brief moment, I didn’t know how to react. This carefully orchestrated act of pushing Lianne away had suddenly taken an unexpectedly painful turn.
But the plan was already underway. There was no way I could stop now. I had no choice but to continue pretending.
Melisa settled herself on the sofa across from me, crossing one leg over the other as her eyes slowly traveled across my face.
She lifted her coffee and took a leisurely sip before finally speaking. “Ethan, I’ve noticed you’ve barely been paying attention to anything concerning Lianne lately.” Her voice carried a probing note. “Don’t tell me you’ve actually decided to let her go?”
I continued looking through the documents in my hands without even raising my head. “You’re reading too much into it.”
“Really?” Melisa lowered her cup onto the table. She leaned forward slightly, studying my expression. “Then what about her antidote?” Her gaze sharpened. “Do you still intend to give it to her?”

I finally looked up. My expression remained completely composed. “Make sure she receives her medicine on schedule and stays alive.” I paused. “That’s all that matters.”
Melisa silently looked at me for a long moment, as though trying to determine whether my words were genuine or just another part of the act.
I lowered my eyes again and returned to the documents in my hands, deliberately maintaining an indifferent expression.
Just as I expected, she couldn’t hold back. Now she was digging into what was really happening between Lianne and me.
Ethan’s POV:
“Ethan,” Melisa said, unable to conceal the satisfaction in her voice. “I’ve made my decision. I’ll agree to what you proposed. If you’re willing to take my poison, I’ll hand over the antidote and make sure Lianne recovers completely.”
I placed the document aside and met her gaze. My voice remained composed. “There’s no need for that.”
Melisa went rigid. “What?”
“We don’t have to keep wasting time on this.” I settled deeper into my chair, watching her without the slightest fluctuation in my expression. “You won’t do anything to her. You know that, Melisa. You have far too much to lose to throw your own future away.”
Something shifted across her features. She caught her lower lip between her teeth, disbelief and bitterness clouding her eyes. “Ethan, you don’t care about Lianne anymore?”
I had no interest in answering another one of her loaded questions. My patience had already been exhausted.
There was no point continuing this ridiculous standoff. I wasn’t the one being cornered here. She was. Her own obsession with what she wanted had become the trap around her neck.
I reached for the intercom and spoke without emotion. “Noah, take her out.”
Melisa rose slowly, anger written all over her face. Her lips parted, seemingly ready to argue, yet she swallowed whatever words had been forming and turned away. Noah escorted her from the office. Once the door closed, complete silence settled over the room.
I sank against my chair, shut my eyes, and massaged the space between my brows.
There was only one final move remaining. Melisa had presented another bargain, and I had refused to take it. She was never going to accept that outcome without a struggle.
So the performance had to continue. I would need to yield to her condition, to convince her that she held the advantage.
