Chapter 840:
“Don’t worry.” Rising onto my tiptoes, I pressed a soft kiss against his lips, cutting off the rest of his protest. “I promise, it’s only a final goodbye. I won’t let her get under my skin. Let this meeting bring a clean end to all the hatred and darkness she leaves behind, and let me finally say goodbye to the past too.”
In the end, he reluctantly gave in, though not before making Jeremy and Tracy promise they wouldn’t leave my side for even a moment.
On the drive to the prison, Tracy sat beside me with her shoulders tense the entire way.
She looked far more nervous than I felt, muttering anxiously, “Lianne, someone like Ivy is definitely going to spit poison before she dies. Whatever comes out of her mouth, don’t let it get to you. She wants to see you upset. The more it hurts you, the happier she’ll be.”
Her unusually serious expression made me smile despite myself. “Don’t worry.” I gave her hand a reassuring pat. “I know exactly what I’m doing. She received the punishment she deserved, and my conscience is clear. No matter what she says, she can’t shake me.”
The car soon came to a stop outside the prison gates.
I was dressed in a simple black suit, without a single piece of jewelry. The understated outfit only made my appearance seem calmer and more dignified.
Escorted by the guards, I passed through one heavy iron gate after another before finally arriving at the visiting room.
As the door slowly opened, I saw Ivy.

Even though I’d prepared myself over and over, the sight of her still made my heart skip a beat.
She was so thin she was almost impossible to recognize. Her once-rounded figure had withered into little more than skin and bones beneath the oversized orange prison uniform.
Her cheekbones jutted out sharply, and her eyes had sunk deep into their sockets. The eyes that had once been filled with calculation and malice were now dull and lifeless.
“You came.” Her voice was rough and hoarse. “I thought you wouldn’t dare face me.”
I took the seat across from her and met her gaze without flinching. “Why wouldn’t I?” I said calmly. “You’re the one carrying the guilt, Ivy. Not me.”
Lianne’s POV:
“I never appealed my sentence, and I didn’t ask for any reduction either.” Ivy’s voice was hoarse, flat, and completely devoid of vitality. “I gave up every opportunity to save myself… just so I could see you one last time.”
I sat across from her, meeting her dull gaze without the slightest ripple of emotion. “There was never anything for you to defend. No matter how many apologies you offer, the people you murdered aren’t coming back.”
A faint smile slowly crept onto her lips, but it only carried bitterness.
Then she quietly uttered the name that had long been etched into both our lives. “Ethan… Is he treating you well? Are you happy with him?”
The question caught me off guard, but I answered without hiding anything, “We’re doing very well.” A gentle smile touched my lips. “Our lives have finally settled, and we’ve known for a long time that we’ll spend the rest of our lives together. That has never once changed.”
