Chapter 479:
“Ethan,” he said, his voice weighed down by emotion. “Ivy… she’s completely lost her mind. Ever since she was confined at the Voss estate, she’s refused to eat. No one can convince her otherwise. She keeps insisting that you’ll come save her.”
The moment Ivy’s name was mentioned, the faint amusement in my eyes disappeared.
My brows furrowed, and a deep sense of disgust rose within me.
I let out a cold laugh. “Someone like her only loves herself. That so-called hunger strike is nothing more than a performance for the elders. She’s hoping they’ll reduce her punishment for trying to murder me.”
Years of navigating both politics and business within the pack had taught me how to see through people’s masks.
Ivy excelled at deception and knew exactly how to exploit the sympathy of others for her own benefit.
Lianne was the only person in this world I could genuinely trust.
Jeremy sighed and shook his head with a self-mocking smile. “I was an idiot. I kept believing she was still the innocent little girl I grew up with. I even…”
He paused, guilt creeping into his voice. “For a long time, I thought the reason you were so obsessed with Lianne was that you couldn’t move on from Ivy, and were treating Lianne as a substitute.”
The instant those words left his mouth, the atmosphere in the room froze.

I saw it clearly. Lianne, standing near the table with her back to us, stiffened.
Her hands, which had been occupied just moments earlier, suddenly stopped mid-motion, her fingertips trembling faintly. Even though I couldn’t see her expression, I could feel it.
The warmth she had only just begun to recover plunged back into a freezing abyss.
“Lianne?” My chest tightened, and I instinctively tried to sit up.
She slowly turned around, her voice weak and unsteady. “I… I’m not feeling very well. I need some fresh air.”
She couldn’t even bring herself to look at me. Before I could say anything, she wheeled herself out of the room in a hurried, almost frantic manner.
“Lianne!” Tracy called out and quickly chased after her.
Then only Jeremy and I remained in the room.
“Damn it!” I cursed under my breath. “Jeremy, do you have any idea what you just said?”
Jeremy looked equally shocked by Lianne’s reaction. Running a frustrated hand through his hair, he said, “I… I never expected her to take it that way. I was only trying to explain that I’ve finally seen the truth. I didn’t think she’d be hurt so badly by it.”
“Go get a doctor or a witch,” I commanded icily, my gaze still locked on the doorway where she had vanished. “Get her checked out right away. The way she was behaving just now, something was off.”
Jeremy quickly nodded when he saw how angry I was, not daring to talk back.
