Chapter 691:
The airport terminal buzzed with travelers moving in every direction. After picking up the children, we made our way to the meeting area. I immediately spotted Tracy in the distance, clinging to Jeremy, the two of them not the least bit shy about showing their affection.
“Don’t look, kids!” I quickly covered Ruby’s eyes with one hand and Silas’s with the other, trying to keep the children from witnessing something they were far too young to see.
After the luggage check, Ethan walked over, his expression noticeably darker.
He cast Jeremy a cold look, then said, “The luggage is checked in. Take your girlfriend and get out of here.”
Jeremy, as thick-skinned as ever, waited until Tracy walked off to collect the boarding passes, then snuck up beside Ethan and whispered, “Come on, I gave you the perfect chance. Sometimes you just have to be tough with your woman. Restore the mate bond, and let’s see how she manages to run after that…”
A heavy punch cut him off.
Ethan had driven his fist hard into Jeremy’s shoulder.
“That one’s for Tracy’s father,” Ethan said coldly, dropping his hand. “Think before you speak.”
Curious, I looked over, expecting Tracy to rush back in concern. Instead, she gave Jeremy a scornful kick while he held his aching shoulder and groaned. “You deserved that,” she said with no sympathy. “Men who spout that kind of nonsense should get punched.”
While the men headed off to handle the boarding formalities, Tracy and I moved to the side to talk.
“I really envy the two of you,” I admitted with a heartfelt sigh. “You can argue as much as you want, then make up like nothing happened. You never seem to hold a grudge.”

Tracy slipped her arm through mine and said in a low tone, “Forget about me for a second. Ethan worked forty straight hours just so he could make this trip with you. So tell me, what’s really happening between you two?”
My heart skipped a beat as memories of that reckless night rushed back. I forced a casual smile and answered vaguely, “Nothing special. It’s the same as always.”
“Lianne.” Tracy’s smile faded as she squeezed my shoulder. Her expression turning serious, she said, “This vacation is a rare opportunity for your family. Even if things aren’t settled between you and Ethan, don’t let it show too much. At least do it for the kids. You know how sensitive Silas is. Don’t make him worry.”
I looked at my son, quietly focused on putting together a Lego set. A dull ache spread through my heart, and I gave a small nod. “I know. I’ll be mindful.”
After passing through security, we settled into the VIP lounge to wait for our flight.
Tracy stayed with Ruby, who was happily playing with the Barbie doll she had just gotten, while Silas sat nearby in silence, carefully assembling his Lego model.
Ethan and I chose separate seats, with two single armchairs between us.
I mindlessly flipped through a magazine while Ethan focused on the spreadsheets displayed on his tablet. Neither of us spoke, and we never once looked at each other.
