Chapter 185:
Noticing how quickly he rushed to explain himself, I smiled and teased him, “Why are you in such a hurry to clear yourself? It’s not as if I said I didn’t trust you. So if Ivy comes here to see you someday, will you keep her outside?”
Ethan said nothing. Something unreadable flickered through his eyes, as though he were seriously considering what I had just said.
After a long silence, he awkwardly steered the conversation elsewhere. “We’ve been on the plane for hours. Go get settled first, and then I’ll take you out for dinner.”
I watched his retreating figure, and to my surprise, the sharp pain I used to feel was no longer there.
There had once been a time when hearing Ivy’s name alone was enough to make every nerve in my body tense.

But now I could mention her so lightly, and even Ethan’s stiff, uneasy reaction struck me as a little funny.
That was when I understood that perhaps once I truly chose to let this relationship go, the wounds that had once felt unbearable would one day become nothing more than something I could talk about casually.
After lunch, the weariness of jet lag finally caught up with me.
I went back to the master bedroom, sank into the soft goose-down bedding, and drifted off almost the instant I lay down.
I slept soundly. There were no quarrels in my dreams, no Ivy either, only a field full of flowers blooming warmly.
By the time I woke up, the setting sun had already stained the window frame red.
There was a message from Ethan on my phone. “Message me when you’re awake, and I’ll take you out to eat.”
I rubbed my drowsy eyes and sent him a message, telling him I was awake.
Soon, Ethan opened the door. He had changed into a gray casual sweater, which made him seem gentler.
The restaurant he picked was fashionable and crowded.
Maybe because of the pregnancy, my appetite was unexpectedly strong.
The restaurant’s signature caviar, a filet mignon so tender it practically melted, and two delicate desserts somehow all ended up in my stomach.
Ethan sat across from me, barely touching his own food, only watching me eat in silence with softness in his eyes. “Eat slowly. No one’s going to steal it from you,” he said, passing me a napkin so I could wipe the cream from the corner of my lips.
When we got back to the villa, it was already after nine at night.
The moonlight here was astonishingly bright, spilling over the bed in a layer of silver.
Ethan wrapped his arms around me from behind, his warm chest pressed firmly to my back.
His hand slipped under the hem of my nightclothes, roaming restlessly and without restraint, his warm fingertips lingering over my lower belly.
“Lianne,” his voice was low and rough, saturated with unmistakable desire.
Lianne’s POV:
My body tensed a little as that familiar, intimate pull between mates flickered through me.
But I quickly forced myself steady and laid my hand over his.
“Ethan, I’m really tired,” I whispered, leaning back against him with deliberate weakness as I refused him.
