Chapter 82:
Stripping away Ivy’s mask with my own hands felt much better than enduring her again and again.
At that moment, the hospital room door opened.
Ethan came in. He was carrying a tray with a hot bowl of spaghetti on it.
“I borrowed the hospital kitchen. There wasn’t much to work with, so I made something simple,” he said in his deep, low voice as he walked over to the bed.

The smell of tomato and meat sauce drifted over, and only then did I realize I was hungry.
I reached out for the bowl, but he moved it away.
“Your eyesight still isn’t clear. You could burn yourself. I’ll feed you.” He sat down on the edge of the bed.
“I can do it myself.”
“Open your mouth,” he insisted, his tone making it clear he wasn’t leaving room for refusal.
I couldn’t make out his expression, but I could feel his long fingers skillfully winding the noodles around the fork. He even lifted it to his lips and blew on it softly before bringing it to me.
That almost indulgent gentleness left me motionless.
I opened my mouth without thinking. The perfectly balanced sweet and tangy flavor spread across my tongue.
It was the first time Ethan had ever cooked for me, much less fed me himself. That kind of tenderness stirred something in the deepest part of my heart.
“Is it good?” he asked close beside me, his warm breath brushing the tip of my nose.
“It’s really good,” I murmured, lowering my eyes, unable to meet his.
He fed me at an unhurried pace, with extraordinary patience. Each time the fork touched my lips, a small tremor ran through me.
At that moment, we looked like a couple deeply in love.
But I knew it wasn’t real.
By the time we were done, it was already past nine at night.
My injured body was worn out. Leaning against the headboard, I spoke in a soft voice. “You should head back. You’ve got a full day tomorrow. There’s no need for you to stay here watching over me.”
Ethan fell silent for a moment, then reached out and tucked the blanket around me. “Alright. I’ll come see you early tomorrow.”
He picked up his jacket and turned to go. Just then, I suddenly sat up and called after him. “Ethan.”
He stopped and turned back.
“When you come tomorrow, take me to dissolve the mate bond.” Drawing in a deep breath, I finally said the words I had buried deepest inside me.
The air turned rigid in an instant. I could feel the pressure around him drop sharply, the gentleness around him vanishing into an icy chill.
“There’s no need to rush the dissolution,” he said with a frown, his voice plainly displeased. “Your vision is still blurred, and your body hasn’t recovered. Focus on getting better first.”
