Chapter 775:
Her eyes met mine without the slightest hesitation. “So let me be clear. If you ever regret this and come back looking for him, we’ll become enemies. I’ll protect our bond and my family’s future with everything I have. And I will never step aside for you again.”
Without saying a word, I rose from my chair and gently set the glass back on the table.
“I understand. I hope you’ll be happy.”
The blessing felt hollow even as it left my lips. I pushed open the break room door and fled the hospital as fast as I could.

I never looked back. I didn’t have the courage to.
For the next seven days after leaving the hospital, I shut myself inside my empty apartment, drifting between long stretches of sleep and endless hours of staring into nothing.
I couldn’t stomach more than a few mouthfuls. My body had no interest in food.
I couldn’t bring myself to visit Tracy. I couldn’t even answer her calls.
In my current state, I felt like a ticking time bomb. I was terrified that all the darkness festering inside me would seep into my voice and somehow reach the tiny, innocent life growing inside her.
Ethan’s words in that hospital room refused to leave me. They wrapped around my heart like invisible chains, tightening a little more each day.
He had sworn he would never stop chasing me unless he died.
That single promise had erased every possible path of escape.
I didn’t even dare think about ending my own life, because I knew that if I died, that madman would follow without hesitation.
And what frightened me most was the possibility that even after death, I’d still be bound to him, forever carrying the weight of his blood, his obsession, and the love that refused to let me go.
Night quietly settled over the city. The wind outside grew colder with every passing minute. Dark clouds hung low over the sky, heavy with the promise of rain.
Almost without realizing what I was doing, I slipped on a thin coat and made my way toward the rooftop terrace…
Lianne’s POV
I stood at the edge of the rooftop as the cold wind howled past my ears.
Below me, tiny headlights flowed through a maze of dazzling neon lights. The sight made my head spin.
Through the blur of flashing lights, I thought I saw my father.
He was wearing his favorite old white shirt, standing at the foot of the building with a gentle smile as he looked up at me.
“Lianne, come here. Come to Daddy…”
His voice held a pull I couldn’t resist. It felt as though one small step was all it would take for every ounce of hatred, pain, struggle, and that crushing weight of love to disappear forever.
My gaze was hollow as my shaking fingers brushed the cold railing. Slowly, my feet inched closer to the edge.
Just as I was about to fall, a strong force grabbed me from behind and yanked me back with a vengeance.
“Lianne, don’t you dare!”
A furious roar filled with panic exploded in my ear.
I was dragged backward and slammed into a firm, warm chest.
