Chapter 966:
The man who was an untouchable, proud Alpha had become so mindful because of me that even thinking about the past filled him with guilt. Unable to hold back any longer, I spoke more sternly. “Can you stop torturing yourself with those painful memories? We’ve survived so much together. Instead of holding on to every regret, you should be focusing on all the happiness we’ve found.”
He was quiet for a few seconds before asking in a low, hesitant voice, “Have you… really been happy being with me?”
I was stunned.
For a moment, I couldn’t find words. He looked straight at me, uncertainty flickering in his eyes. It was as though he desperately wanted my answer, but feared hearing it at the same time.
A rush of frustration and heartache overwhelmed me. Leaning forward, I bit down hard on his lip.
A muffled groan escaped him, but he didn’t move away.
Only after I tasted the faint metallic flavor of blood did I finally let go of him.
He lifted a hand and lightly touched the corner of his lip. Seeing the tiny smear of blood on his fingertip, he chuckled softly. “When did you learn to bite like that?” he teased. “Did Tracy rub off on you?”
I deliberately put on a fierce expression. “If you don’t like it, then fine. I’ll just go bite someone else.”
The moment those words left my mouth, his eyes darkened. He reached over, cupped my face, turned me toward him, then captured my lips.
The car was parked by the roadside, with pedestrians walking past outside. Even though the windows had the privacy tint, I couldn’t stop worrying that someone might see us.

Flustered, I pushed against his chest. “Ethan! We’re parked on the side of the road. Someone could…”
He paid me no mind. One hand cradled the back of my head while the other wrapped firmly around my waist, holding me securely against the passenger seat.
His kiss was intense and demanding. It felt as though he were claiming me while expressing his displeasure over my careless remark about biting someone else.
My breathing became uneven, and my heart pounded wildly against my chest.
When he finally pulled away, he looked into my eyes with an intense, possessive gaze. “Who were you planning to bite?” he asked softly. “Hmm?”
Heat rushed to my cheeks. I surrendered immediately, obediently closing my mouth and deciding not to test his patience any further.
When he saw me become so compliant, the darkness in his eyes gradually melted away, and he smiled faintly. He started the car and got back on the road.
A little later, while waiting at a red light, I turned to him and said sincerely, “Ethan, meeting you in this lifetime is the best thing that could ever happen to me.”
He looked at me briefly but stayed silent.
I reached over, tightly wrapped my fingers around his hand, and said softly, “So stop beating yourself up. You’re the only light I’ve ever had. Without you, my world would be nothing but darkness.”
A warm smile slowly spread across his face. “So,” he teased, “you’re admitting you can’t live without me now?”
I met his gaze and gave him a candid, unwavering response, “It’s more than that.”
