Chapter 747:
My fingers shook as I tapped out the sequence of numbers I had memorized long ago.
Beep… beep…
This time, I wasn’t greeted by the cold, robotic message. The call actually went through.
At that moment, it felt as though a bolt of lightning had torn through me. I froze on the spot.

So Ethan had blocked my number all along. His line wasn’t unreachable. He simply never wanted to hear from me again.
A few seconds later, the call connected.
“Hello.”
Ethan’s voice came through the phone, deep and captivating, but laced with unmistakable weariness.
That single word destroyed every bit of composure I had struggled to maintain. The alcohol rushed through my body, carrying with it all the pain, fear, longing, and bitterness I had kept buried.
Holding the stranger’s phone as though it were my lifeline, I whispered into it, my voice cracking as tears filled my eyes. “Ethan… I’m really drunk this time. Why haven’t you come to pick me up yet?”
The line went completely silent, so quiet that I wondered if the call had dropped.
The alcohol seemed to cloud my mind even further, and the world before my eyes dissolved into a blur of shifting colors.
I kept the phone pressed to my ear and let out a bitter laugh. “Oh… I’m so stupid. It’s been over between us for a long time. You blocked my number. You sold the house… Why would you still rush to me just because I said I needed you?”
The young man who had lent me his phone must have realized what was happening. His eyes filled with sympathy as he gently reached out to steady my swaying shoulders. “Miss, you’re really drunk. I think you should rest for a while.”
Instinctively, I shook off his hand. Even in my drunken state, the instinct to guard my personal space was still deeply rooted in me.
I pushed both the phone and the bill against his chest, my head too heavy for my neck to carry.
“Take the money… and your phone,” I muttered.
Using the bar counter for support, I forced myself to my feet, though my body swayed unsteadily.
The young man chuckled softly. His eyes swept across the bar and paused briefly on a few suspicious men who were clearly watching me. “This place isn’t safe, and some guys have been staring at you. Let me take you home.”
The alcohol had turned my thoughts into a hopeless mess. I shoved him away and held onto the only idea that made sense to me. “I’m going home…”
Everything after that was a blur.
I vaguely remembered staggering out of the bar, stubbornly avoiding the young man’s attempts to support me. Somewhere behind me, I faintly heard him mumble in confusion, “Wait… the call is still connected…”
When I opened my eyes again, a sharp beam of sunlight slipped through the poorly closed curtains, piercing straight into my eyes.
I jerked upright and realized I was lying on the sofa in my apartment.
