Chapter 514:
Jeremy released a long, defeated sigh and slumped deeper into the couch.
Several minutes passed in silence before he abruptly stood and brushed down his clothes.
“I’m heading out,” he said quietly. Yet before leaving, his eyes instinctively drifted toward the door. “At least I’ll ask if Tracy wants a ride back,” he added. “It’s on my way, and it’ll be safer for her.”
Watching him leave, I shook my head.
The truth was obvious. Jeremy had fallen for Tracy.
Lianne’s POV:

The nights in Thiynia were always windy.
Tracy and I sat together on a bench in the hospital garden while cool gusts swept through the trees around us.
Above, countless stars filled the sky. They seemed brighter than the ones back home, yet somehow colder and farther away.
I stared up at them, but my thoughts remained tangled and restless. After a long silence, Tracy finally spoke.
“Lianne… have you changed your mind?” she asked softly. “Are you really still planning to leave Ethan?”
My body stiffened.
A few moments passed before I gently shook my head. “No,” I answered, surprising even myself with how calm I sounded. “I’ve never changed my mind. Not once.”
Tracy sighed quietly and looked at me with mixed emotions. “In the past, every time he hurt you, I wanted to grab a knife and deal with that arrogant jerk myself,” she admitted. “But after seeing him risk his life for you… I can’t help wondering if you’re being a little too harsh on him.”
Harsh. The word echoed in my mind. Lowering my gaze, I stared at my tightly clasped hands.
“You don’t understand, Tracy.” A bitter smile tugged at my lips. “Rola and the elders see me as a stain on the Voss family’s reputation, as someone who tainted their precious bloodline. Even if I stayed, they would never truly accept me.”
My chest tightened as the image of Ethan lying in a pool of blood flashed through my mind. “I don’t want Ethan trapped between his family and me forever,” I continued softly. “And I don’t want our children growing up surrounded by resentment and hostility.”
I swallowed hard. “This time, he was seriously hurt. And after all these years, we’ve finally cleared up the misunderstandings between us. I know now that he loves me,” I whispered. “More than his own life.” For a moment, I fought back the sting in my eyes. “That’s enough for me.”
Taking a deep breath, I forced myself to remain steady. “Even if we eventually go our separate ways… I won’t have any regrets.”
Tracy studied me for a long moment. Seeing the certainty in my eyes, she knew there was nothing left to argue about.
“Fine,” she said quietly, wrapping an arm around me. “Whatever you decide, I’ll be on your side.”
I rested my head lightly against her shoulder. Warmth stung my eyes, and I discreetly brushed away a tear that had escaped down my cheek.
