Chapter 489:
I stared at him, bewildered, and suddenly noticed a shift in his eyes.
The playful mockery had vanished, giving way to a burning, fervent intensity.
I dropped my gaze, and that was when I saw it. The thin hospital gown did little to hide his body’s primal response.
Severely injured as he was, being alone with the woman he loved made him lose control.

He held my gaze, his voice low and husky, threaded with equal parts desire and vulnerability.
“Lianne, you’ve turned me on, and now you’re trying to run away… How can you be so cruel? You can’t just do this to me,” Ethan said softly, a hint of wounded accusation in his voice that made my heart quiver.
I was so flustered my mind went completely blank. All I wanted was to turn my wheelchair around and get out of that room.
“I… I really need to go. You should rest,” I stammered, fumbling blindly for the door handle.
“Ah!” A muffled groan of pain, followed by the sound of something shifting heavily against the sheets, made my heart leap into my throat.
My embarrassment vanished instantly, replaced by panic. I whipped my wheelchair around, crashing it into the side of the bed with a loud bang.
“Ethan! Did your wound split open again? Hold still!” Panic reddened my eyes as I reached to check his injury.
But before my fingers could touch the fabric, his large, warm hand closed firmly around mine.
I looked up in shock and met a pair of eyes sparkling with mischief, completely devoid of any trace of pain.
“You tricked me?” I blurted out, anger surging through me as I tried to yank my hand free.
“If I hadn’t, would you have come back?” He took advantage of the moment to pull me closer, pressing my hand against his warm chest. The playfulness faded from his expression, replaced by something far more serious. His voice dropped low enough to send a shiver through me. “Lianne, I’m genuinely suffering here. With you sitting this close to me, how am I supposed to fall asleep?”
I felt utterly trapped as his strong, steady heartbeat pounded beneath my palm. Even through the thin hospital gown, I could feel the slight tension in the muscles underneath.
Terrified that struggling too much might reopen the wound in his chest, I had no choice but to soften my tone. “But you’re still injured. The doctor said no strenuous activity… we can’t do anything.”
He smirked. “There are other ways you can help me.”
Lianne’s POV:
Ethan bent toward my ear, his warm breath brushing against my skin and sending a tremor through me. “I remember what you were like when you were drunk. You were bold enough to try anything. You even called me the boring one…”
In an instant, memories of my bold moves came flooding back.
I remembered climbing onto his lap, grabbing his tie, and pulling him down toward me…
