Chapter 841:
She lowered her eyes, saying nothing for a while. When she finally looked up again, her reddened eyes glistened with an emotion I had never expected to see from her. “Lianne,” she said quietly, her voice carrying an unfamiliar humility, “I’ve done too many unforgivable things in this lifetime. I know I’m in no position to ask anything of you. But… if there’s another life, could you let Ethan choose me instead? Just once. I want to know what it feels like to be treasured… to have someone love and spoil me the way he loves you.”
I looked straight into her cloudy eyes and answered without hesitation, “No.” My voice was calm, but every word rang with certainty. “Even if there’s another lifetime waiting for us, I’ll still choose Ethan.” My smile softened. “The only difference is that next time, I’ll be the one chasing after him first. I’ll be the one loving him with everything I have and making sure he’s the happiest man in the world.” My gaze gradually turned cold. “As for you, Ivy…” I paused. “You can rot in hell.”
The color instantly drained from her face. The vulnerability she’d shown only moments ago disappeared completely, replaced by the familiar resentment that had fueled her for years.
Her fingers curled into tight fists as she shouted, “Why? Why do you get everything while I get nothing?” Her voice trembled with fury. “Ever since I was a child, I had to fight tooth and nail for every little thing I owned. I clawed my way through life, only to end up locked in a prison cell.” She laughed bitterly. “Lianne, you’ve never lived through the kind of hell I have.”
I listened quietly before letting out a faint, almost pitying smile. “You envy the life I have now?” I asked evenly. “Ivy, you never saw the darkest chapters of my life, so naturally you think my world has always been smooth sailing. You think I was simply luckier than you? You’re wrong. The pain I’ve endured and the people I’ve lost are no fewer than yours.” My voice remained steady. “The only difference between us is that I chose to heal and keep moving forward, while you chose to drown in your hatred—and drag everyone else down with you.”
For a brief moment, she had nothing to say. But old habits die hard. Before long, the bitterness returned to her face like a familiar mask. “Oh, stop pretending, Lianne.” She sneered coldly. “You’re nothing but a woman who’s good at acting kind and innocent. Do you really think I can’t see through you? Deep down, you’re colder than anyone.”

I didn’t waste my energy arguing. Instead, I simply met her venom with calm indifference. “You can believe whatever you want.” My voice remained even. “The biggest difference between us is simple. I would never sacrifice innocent people to satisfy my own desires.” I shrugged lightly. “Whether you understand that or not means absolutely nothing to me.”
As the last few minutes of our visit slipped away, one of the guards stepped closer to remind us that our time was nearly over. Suddenly, Ivy called out, “Lianne…” There was an unmistakable desperation in her voice. “Please… let me see him. Just show me one recent picture of Ethan. One glance is enough.”
After hesitating for a brief moment, I unlocked my phone and pulled up a recent photo. It was a candid picture I’d secretly taken while Ethan was working.
