Chapter 287:
“A scam?” I let out a cold, mirthless laugh and gestured to Illa to bring a tablet forward. “I have video evidence of you signing voluntarily, along with the compensation agreement bearing your signature. If you feel wronged, call the authorities or take us to court. But if you block construction again, you’ll be arrested for disrupting public order.”
The man froze, rage twisting his features, unable to form a word. He hadn’t expected me to be this unyielding, nor anticipated that I had irrefutable proof.
Anger consumed the last remnants of his reason.
“Bitch! I’ll tear you apart!” he bellowed, his body convulsing as his clothes tore, grey fur bursting through his skin.

Before the stunned crowd, he transformed into a wolf, jaws wide and teeth glinting. But rather than lunging at me, he sprang at Illa, who was standing beside me.
“Watch out!” I yelled.
His claws slashed across Illa’s back, cutting deep into her delicate body.
Blood sprayed, staining the ground.
Illa screamed, collapsing heavily at my feet, her back marred by a vicious wound that ran down to the bone, bleeding freely.
“Illa!” I cried, my heart tightening painfully.
The man didn’t pause. His eyes burned with murderous intent as he lunged again, claws aimed straight at my throat.
Suddenly, a long-forgotten power ignited inside me, erupting with the force of a volcano.
Anna.
My wolf, vanished for three long years, had finally returned to me.
I didn’t flinch. I didn’t take a step back.
As the grey wolf lunged, I shot out my right hand and clamped onto its neck with precise control.
With only that single hand, I hurled the enormous wolf, hundreds of pounds of muscle, against the stone wall behind me.
Cracks spread across the wall, sending gravel flying in all directions.
The man froze, shock etched on his face, a strangled whimper escaping his throat.
He fought and struggled with everything he had, but my grip was unyielding, like iron, impervious to his thrashing.
These three years had changed me completely. I was no longer the frightened woman who once leaned on Ethan for protection.
To protect Ruby and endure in the ruthless world of werewolves, I had reclaimed my wolf and the raw strength that came with being the mate of a top Alpha.
The weak, pitiful version of myself was gone forever.
“Get lost.” I leaned close to his ear, my voice low and lethal, like a sentence delivered from the depths of hell. “If I ever see you again, I will break your neck myself.”
I let go suddenly, and he collapsed to the ground like a lifeless puppet, shifting back into his human form.
He stared at me, wide-eyed and terrified, before scrambling away in blind panic.
Ignoring the stunned crowd, I ripped a piece of my shirt and pressed it against Illa’s bleeding back to slow the flow.
“Alex! Call an ambulance!”
Once Illa was on her way to the hospital and I confirmed she was stable, I stepped out of the gate, every muscle exhausted.
The night air was cool against my skin, washing away the lingering heat of anger and tension.
I drew in a deep, steadying breath, settling the turmoil that still churned in my chest, and headed to the night market to meet Tracy.
