Chapter 945:
Just before stepping outside, Ethan glanced back at me. “I’ll come home for dinner tonight.”
“Alright.”
The door shut behind them. Silence immediately settled over the apartment. I remained in the living room, my gaze landing on the glass of milk Ruby had left unfinished at the table. A strange sense of peace gradually spread through me.
It wasn’t anything like the suffocation I had experienced the last time I left. Back then, walking away had felt like escaping. This time, I was returning because I wanted to.
After changing, I began packing.
There wasn’t much to gather. I had taken very little with me when I moved out, so I finished organizing most of my belongings fairly quickly.
I had just begun arranging my clothes inside the suitcase when my phone vibrated. Tracy’s name appeared on the display.
I answered and tucked the phone between my shoulder and cheek while continuing to fold. She hesitated, “Lianne, are you occupied?”
“I’m packing. I’m moving back.” I smoothed out a shirt before placing it inside the case.

She went quiet for a moment. “Back? You mean Ethan’s house?”
“Yes. The children are accustomed to being there, and honestly, I don’t want to keep dealing with the inconvenience of living separately.”
“Does that mean you two are together again?”
My hands slowed. I deliberately avoided giving her a straightforward answer. “More or less. It’s mainly for the children.”
Tracy obviously wasn’t convinced, yet surprisingly, she didn’t challenge me. After several seconds, she spoke again. “Lianne, I talked to Jeremy.”
My fingers stopped.
Her voice became more serious. “He confirmed that Ethan isn’t suffering from a terminal condition. I asked him more than once because I wanted to be absolutely certain. He said Ethan’s test results do show some unusual readings, but there’s nothing suggesting an untreatable disease.”
My response was calm. “I see.”
Tracy sounded confused. “You’re not shocked?”
I folded another shirt and placed it into the suitcase. “Melisa already told me. She claimed she could save Ethan. She even said she was going to become his mate and take care of him, so apparently, an ex-mate like me had no reason to involve herself.”
Tracy fell silent. A few seconds later, she exploded, “That bitch!”
I laughed under my breath. “Calm down. Don’t let her ruin your mood.”
“How am I supposed to stay calm? She took your man and then had the nerve to parade it in front of you. Who does she think she is?”
“Tracy, don’t worry about me. She can’t affect me anymore. At this point, I only care about the children. And as for Melisa…”
My voice trailed off as I looked toward the window. The sky outside was brilliant and cloudless. “Everyone eventually gets what they deserve.”
Ethan returned from the company earlier than expected.
I was kneeling beside the bed, trying to squeeze the final few garments into the suitcase. A fine sheen of perspiration covered my forehead.
