Chapter 648:
Even with so many delicious dishes in front of me, I only ate a few mouthfuls of pasta before returning to my office.
Shortly after, a sharp, stabbing pain suddenly shot through my stomach.
It was a long-running chronic condition that had bothered me for years.
Frowning, I searched every pocket of my bag, and my heart slowly sank.
I had switched bags that morning, leaving my usual stomach medicine back at the hotel.
With no other choice, I curled up in my office chair, one hand pressed against my stomach. I clenched my teeth, determined to endure the pain until I could take my medicine after work.
Just as cold sweat began forming on my forehead, someone knocked softly on the door.
Noah walked in carrying a small white box of medicine.

“Ms. Riley, here’s your stomach medicine.” He placed the box on my desk along with a cup of warm water, then added hesitantly, “Alpha specifically asked me to bring it to you.”
Despite the pain, I stared at him in surprise. “How did Ethan know?”
Noah immediately looked flustered. Avoiding my eyes, he mumbled, “Alpha has been monitoring… no, he’s just been paying close attention to the project’s progress.”
The moment he said this, he turned and rushed out, as though afraid I would ask more questions.
I stayed seated, quietly staring at the unopened box of medicine on my desk, my emotions a mess.
Even though Ethan wasn’t here with me, he still knew exactly what was happening to me.
His constant, invisible attention sent a chill through me, but I couldn’t stop a faint sense of yearning from creeping into my heart.
I opened the medicine box and took two pills with the warm water.
The bitter taste coated my tongue before they went down my throat.
But the medicine’s bitterness was nothing compared to the faint, indescribable ache in my heart — that quiet mix of longing and restlessness that lingered long after the bitter taste had worn off.
Lianne’s POV:
An entire day of nonstop work left me drained. By the time I arrived at Bastion Law Firm, every ounce of strength had left my body. My throat felt dry, and even speaking had become difficult.
Tim had been waiting for me in his office.
With a serious expression, he slid a thick file filled with neatly arranged evidence across the desk. “Lianne, we’ve officially submitted all the materials for the lawsuit. Now all we have to do is wait for the Pack Council to file the case and enforce mandatory measures against the suspects.”
I fixed my eyes on the stack of documents, my fingertips trembling ever so slightly.
I knew better than anyone how much power the Voss family held in this city. Filing the case and securing an arrest was never going to be easy. A myriad of obstacles were bound to stand in the way.
“Tim, do you really think everything will go according to plan?” I finally asked, unable to hide the worry weighing on my heart.
