Chapter 974:
It was only after we finished that Noah reminded me about the arrangement.
As I left the conference room, I loosened the top button of my shirt, checked that everything had been arranged according to plan, and made my way toward the hotel. During the drive, Noah studied me through the rearview mirror before cautiously asking, “Alpha, shouldn’t we let Lianne know beforehand?”
I considered it briefly before shaking my head. “There’s no need. I’ll tell her myself once I’m home tonight.”
Noah accepted the answer without another word and returned his attention to the road.
When we arrived, I took the elevator upstairs and stopped outside the designated room. After swiping the key card, I pushed the door open.
Just as I expected, there was no one inside.
Melisa would never make things that straightforward. She enjoyed creating an air of mystery around herself, so I had no reason to rush. I walked over to the window and looked down at the endless stream of traffic and pedestrians below.
Not long afterward, the door opened behind me. I turned and found Melisa standing just inside the entrance. She wore a modest dress with a subtly provocative touch, while the nervousness on her face was impossible to miss.
She walked toward me and stopped a short distance away. “Hi, Ethan.” Her voice sounded slightly strained. I gave her a brief nod. “Go shower.”
She looked momentarily startled but soon nodded and disappeared into the bathroom.
I removed my jacket and casually placed it across the back of a nearby chair, deliberately making it appear as though I intended to stay until morning.

The shower started running.
I reached for my phone and noticed a new message from Lianne.
She was trying to settle on a name for her studio and wanted something that sounded professional enough to build a reputation around.
I read through the suggestions she had sent me, and a smile tugged at my lips. I typed, “Call it LOVE. L for you, E for me. It means you love me.”
Her reply arrived almost immediately. “Can you be serious for once?”
I laughed quietly before answering, “I am serious. It’s memorable, and there’s a meaning behind it.”
She responded with a helpless emoji before asking, “When are you coming home?”
My fingers paused over the screen. I hated deceiving her, but telling her the truth right then would put everything at risk. After weighing my options for a moment, I finally typed, “Around eight.”
Her response was only a simple “Okay.” She did not question me further.
I locked my phone and lowered it to my side. The warmth that had softened my expression moments earlier slowly disappeared.
The shower fell silent.
A few seconds later, the bathroom door opened. Melisa emerged with a towel wrapped securely around her body.
