Chapter 105:
“So that’s your excuse? You were just calming her down?” I let out a soft, cold laugh. “Funny how that works. Frank has always been sensitive. He gets overwhelmed easily and tends to think too much. I brought him to see Harold for the same reason. I was helping him settle down. Someone like him can’t stand watching me get treated unfairly. You’re an Alpha. You should understand that much.”
“Lianne!” Ethan’s expression turned dark in an instant. “I’m serious right now.”
“So am I,” I replied without hesitation, my tone firm.
He stared at me for a long moment. Then he brought up Harold, using him as leverage. “My grandfather wants us to get along. Do you really think the way you’re acting right now is what he expects from you?”
“You’re the one who let Harold down, not me,” I fired back. “All I agreed to was helping him complete the project and getting along with you for now. I never said I’d stay with you for life. Ethan, before pointing fingers at me, maybe you should reflect on the things you’ve done!”
Silence took over Ethan.
His breathing turned uneven, and for a brief second, something uneasy and ashamed flickered across his usually steady gaze.
“What happened yesterday… I’m sorry,” he said quietly. “I didn’t have a choice. I needed to settle Ivy down first.”

“Sorry?” I let out a cold laugh. “You’ve completely missed what Harold wanted. He wanted us to stand by each other like real mates, not for you to put on an act just to please him!”
I moved closer until our eyes met. My voice shook, but I didn’t hold back. “Ethan, tell me the truth. During these three years, did you ever even once think about letting Ivy go for good and staying with me for the rest of your life?”
Everything around us went still.
I kept my breathing steady while waiting, even though I already knew the answer would cut deep.
Just when I expected him to stay quiet, Ethan raised his head and looked straight at me.
His eyes stayed fixed on mine, and the sincerity in his voice made me uneasy.
“I did,” he answered, his tone low and certain. “I’ve thought about staying with you for the rest of my life.”
Not a single word came out of me as I stood there, completely stunned.
My thoughts went blank, and my heartbeat turned erratic as that cursed mate bond surged, trying to convince me his words were real.
Still, I pulled myself back together.
A faint, self-mocking laugh escaped me as I steadied my voice. “You don’t have to lie just to comfort me right now. It doesn’t even sound real.”
I drew in a steady breath before pressing him again. “Then tell me this. If Ivy calls you next time, saying she’s breaking down, or that she disappeared, or even threatening her own life, will you still go to her?”
Silence stretched across the room.
My gaze stayed on Ethan, and I caught the hesitation in his eyes without missing a thing.
A quiet, bitter laugh slipped out as the truth became clear. His heart had never left Ivy.
“You’ve only ever thought about it, Ethan,” I said in a low voice. “If you truly mean those words, then show it through what you do. For now, just leave. I need time to rest.”
