Chapter 240

Chapter 240:
At that instant, the heavy, soundproof door shifted slightly, and a sharp, triumphant voice that I would recognize anywhere rang out.
“Ethan! I baked this cake myself! You have to eat every last bite!”
It was Nancy.
The very same woman Ethan should have sued, fired, and even sent to prison.
I shoved past Noah and stormed through the door.
The room was opulent to the point of excess, and the glittering light from the crystal chandelier stabbed at my eyes.
Nancy was draped in a glittering, diamond-studded gown, pressing herself against him in a deliberately showy, almost provocative manner.
She held a fork, lifting a piece of cake to Ethan’s mouth with exaggerated care.
Around them, prominent pack members and wealthy heirs watched, applauding and encouraging the display.
“Feeding with your hands is dull! Mouth-to-mouth is far more thrilling!”

“Exactly, Alpha. Nancy has suffered so much for you. Don’t you owe her some reward?”
Ethan lounged at the center of the couch, swirling a glass of red wine, a playful, mischievous grin playing on his lips, one I had never seen before. He didn’t pull away, even lowering his head slightly as Nancy leaned in toward him.
In that instant, I felt all my strength vanish.
The memory of last night, the promises of a lifetime, the future I had once envisioned, all of it collapsed in a single, cruel moment.
His so-called “affection” revealed itself as nothing more than an empty gesture, a shallow attempt to placate me now that I carried his child.
I froze at the doorway, my face pale, feeling like an absurd intruder at a decadent banquet.
Nancy held a small piece of cream-topped cake between her lips, leaning in toward Ethan with a teasing, almost deliberate expression.
The whistles, jeers, and laughter rang painfully in my ears.
“Shameless!” Tracy seethed, trembling with fury as she pointed at them, her voice sharp with contempt.
She grabbed my arm, tugging at me. “Lianne, let’s leave! Staying here one more second is unbearable!”
But my legs refused to obey, rooted in place, incapable of moving a single step.
“Ethan.”
My voice trembled, weak and fragile, cutting through the sudden hush that followed the commotion.
Every gaze in the room turned toward me instantly.
In their eyes, I saw surprise, a flicker of amusement, and above all, a patronizing, mocking disdain.
It was as if I were not his mate, but an uninvited, unstable woman who had barged in to ruin their spectacle.
Ignoring the stares that stabbed at me, I advanced toward the couch, fixing my eyes on Ethan.
“What’s happening?” I asked, my voice hoarse. “Didn’t you promise I’d be your only one?”
Lianne’s POV
I held on, waiting for Ethan to say something.
Even if what came out of his mouth was awkward, even if he brushed it off as a show for the Elders, I told myself that hearing him explain might be enough for me to swallow my pride and believe him.
Instead, Ethan only raised his gaze with indifference.
