Chapter 158:
Lianne’s POV:
Ethan cut a slice of cake and placed the two largest, reddest strawberries on top. Instead of offering it to Ivy, he held it out to me without hesitation.
“Take it.” His voice came out low, carrying a restrained tension.
With a smile, I accepted the plate, letting my fingers brush against the back of his hand as if it meant something more. “Thank you. You still remember I like strawberries.”
Holding the cake, I leaned toward his ear while people around us watched closely. “Don’t stay out late tonight. Come back early. I’ll be waiting in our room.”
Standing right beside him, Ivy heard every word. I was sure of it.

Without looking at them, I turned and left, keeping my steps steady and controlled.
Once I finished the cake, I used the restroom as an excuse and slipped away from the noisy ballroom.
As I walked past the stairwell where the lights were dim, a sharp voice stopped me.
“Lianne! Stop right there!”
I stopped and turned around.
Ivy stood there in the shadows, her princess gown clashing with the dark corridor.
Without another word, she turned and walked into the stairwell. I followed behind her casually.
“What do you want?” I asked, resting against the cold handrail as if nothing bothered me.
“Drop the act!” Ivy snapped, no longer hiding her anger. “Do you really think this means you’ve won? Ethan told me himself that he’ll get rid of you soon. You’re nothing but a problem to him. If you had any sense, you would’ve ended this and left a long time ago. Why stay and make a fool of yourself?”
Her face showed nothing but anger, yet I kept my expression calm. To me, the whole scene felt ridiculous.
I looked her over as if weighing something. “Ivy, did you forget that he came after me all the way to Gattenwood? He walked into my hotel room, and we stayed there for quite some time together.”
As the color faded from her face, leaving it pale, I lowered my voice and let it soften.
“Do you want to hear what he said to me in that room, when it was just the two of us? Or what he did while we were there?”
“Lianne, don’t you have any shame?” she said through clenched teeth. “Ethan was with me last night. How can you still come to my birthday banquet and say things like that?”
Tilting my head, I moved closer and spoke near her ear. “Ivy, why are you reacting like this? Are you worried that even when he’s with you, he’s still thinking about the one he’s kept for three years?”
“How dare you!” Ivy snapped, as if something inside her had been set off.
Her face twisted with anger, and the composure she had been holding on to fell apart.
“Disgusting! Lianne, you make me sick!” she shouted, her voice rising. “Ethan doesn’t love you! He only keeps you around to satisfy himself! If you know what’s good for you, leave his house and stop clinging to that worthless pride!”
Watching her lose control made everything clear.
