Chapter 127:
The posting time was exactly when I had gone to meet Ivy in secret while Lianne was asleep.
An icy jolt shot from my back all the way to my head.
I was instantly seized by panic and grabbed my own phone to check, but Ivy’s profile looked completely clean, without any sign that post had ever existed.
Still unwilling to let it go, I sent Jeremy a message to verify it.
“Has Ivy posted anything lately?”
“No, she hasn’t posted in a while.”
That was when I realized it. This post was only shown to Lianne. It was a direct strike at Lianne, calculated, malicious, and overflowing with taunting arrogance.
Holding down the chaos inside me, I used the mind link to contact Ivy.
“Ethan?” Ivy’s voice sounded in my head, bright with pleasure.
“Tell me what that post means,” I demanded, my mental voice stripped of even a trace of warmth.

Silence answered me from the other side.
After a long pause, Ivy finally let out a muffled sob. “I’m sorry. Ethan, I was just too afraid. I could see how good you’ve been to Lianne lately. I was afraid you were starting to care about her, afraid you were going to leave me. I wasn’t thinking clearly. I only wanted her to see it, to make her stay away from you. I really do know I was wrong. Please forgive me.”
At that instant, the girl I had always seen as fragile, gentle, and innocent split apart with a harsh, ugly crack.
I had never thought the first love I had promised myself I would protect could hide something so dark and calculating.
“This won’t happen again.” I drew in a deep breath, my voice cold as ice. “Delete it. Now.”
“Okay, I’m deleting it right away. Ethan, please don’t be upset. I just love you too much.”
Once I cut off the mind link, I used Lianne’s phone to refresh her feed.
The post had disappeared.
I quietly breathed out in relief, like I had just barely avoided a catastrophe.
I returned the phone to the exact place I had taken it from and silently thanked my good fortune.
As long as it was gone, and as long as Lianne had not seen it, she would never find out that I had snuck out in the middle of the night.
Lianne’s POV
It was only after I returned to my room that I noticed I had left my phone with Ethan.
I drew a breath to calm my racing heartbeat, then turned around and went back to knock on his door.
He answered almost immediately, already changed into a black robe with the neckline hanging loose and exposing a broad stretch of his well-defined chest.
He passed me the phone. “Try not to forget it again.”
I accepted it, and in that moment, a thought suddenly came to me.
“Ethan, could you help me with something?” I lifted my eyes to him and kept my tone as natural as possible. “I want to take a picture of you and post it online.”
