Chapter 499:
The ointment felt cool against my skin, but it did nothing to calm the turmoil inside me.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, I asked quietly, “Did Ethan’s injury worsen again? I noticed his bandages were changed.”
Melisa’s hands paused for the briefest moment. She deliberately avoided looking at me, clearly honoring a promise she’d made to Ethan.
“He’s tough,” she replied after a moment. “He’ll be fine.”
Though worry gnawed at me, I said nothing more and silently endured the sharp sting coming from my leg. When the treatment was finished, I prepared to leave.
But just as I reached the door, Melisa suddenly called out to me. I stopped and turned around.
She had already set down her medical tools. The expression on her face was unusually serious, and her clear, almost mystical eyes seemed capable of seeing straight through every secret I carried.
“Can I ask you something?”

“Of course,” I replied.
Melisa hesitated for a moment before speaking. “Do you love Alpha Ethan very much?”
The question caught me off guard. I stood there silently for a long moment before forcing a faint smile. But I couldn’t bring myself to answer.
Whether I loved him or not no longer seemed to matter.
Sooner or later, I would disappear from his life completely. I would return him to the Thorn Pack.
Melisa watched me quietly. After what felt like an eternity, she finally spoke again. Her voice was soft, but the words pierced straight through my heart. “Lianne… have you ever realized that he loves you far more deeply than you think he does?”
Lianne’s POV:
After parting ways with Melisa, I hurried back to the hospital room. The only thing on my mind was seeing Ethan.
The instant I pushed the door open, my eyes widened.
Ethan, who was supposed to be resting in bed, was standing by the window with his back to me.
The afternoon sunlight spilled through the glass, outlining his tall, upright frame.
Even after everything he had gone through, his natural noble confidence and elegance remained untouched. But he had clearly lost a lot of weight. The hospital gown hung loosely on his frame.
“Why are you out of bed?!” I rushed toward him anxiously. “Melisa specifically said you’re not allowed to get up until tomorrow. Have you completely lost your senses?”
Hearing me, Ethan slowly turned around.
He smiled faintly, clearly amused. “I’ve been lying down way too long. It’s fine, really, no need to worry.” He lifted a hand slightly. “Come here.”
“Get back into bed,” I ordered, trying my best to sound stern.
I reached out to steady him, but instead, he caught my wrist. His grip wasn’t as tight as it used to be, but it was still very firm.
“Give me your hand,” he said quietly.
Although confused, I still held out my other hand.
Before I could ask what he was doing, he lifted the edge of his hospital gown and pressed my palm against his firm, warm abs.
