Chapter 867:
“Lianne…” Tim’s voice was quiet, carrying an unmistakable weight. “Rola passed away before dawn. The court contacted me this morning to inform me that the proceedings have been terminated, and the original verdict will remain in effect.”
For a split second, my mind went completely blank. My phone nearly slipped from my grasp as I stood rooted to the spot, a sharp ringing filling my ears.
There had once been a time when revenge consumed me, when all I wanted was for Rola to receive the punishment she deserved.
But later, I truly let it go. I only wanted everything to end so that everyone could finally leave the past behind.
Never, not even once, had I imagined she would leave this world like this.
Forcing myself to shake off the dizziness clouding my thoughts, I hurried upstairs to change my clothes, grabbed my bag, and rushed out of the house.

Throughout the drive, I kept calling Ethan. The phone rang endlessly, but no one answered.
I refused to give up and called again. And again. Each time, the result was exactly the same.
Next, I rang Noah, and his tone was just as tense. “I can’t get through to him either,” he said. “Alpha hasn’t been answering his phone since last night.”
The fear inside me grew stronger with every passing second.
Ethan was out of contact. More importantly, he had never ignored my calls before.
I sped all the way to the hospital and hurried straight to the emergency room floor.
The hallway, however, was deserted. The emergency room doors stood open, and the room had already been cleared out, leaving behind nothing but cold medical equipment and an operating table.
I stood there helplessly, not knowing what I was supposed to do next.
Just as I reached for my phone to call Jeremy, it suddenly rang. The caller ID displayed Ethan’s name.
I answered at once, my voice trembling with worry. “Ethan! Where are you? Are you alright?”
His voice crackled through the phone, raw and worn. “I’m fine. I’m taking Rola on her last journey. I’m burying her next to my grandfather.”
Without thinking, I replied, “Tell me where you are. I’ll join you.”
There was a brief pause. After two seconds, his voice turned icy. “There’s no need. Rola never wanted to see you.”
His words pierced my chest like a thin needle. The wound wasn’t deep, but the pain lingered all the same.
I opened my mouth, wanting to explain, but he cut me off before I could speak. His tone grew even colder. “This is the final settlement. Rola paid for her sins with her life. Are you satisfied now?”
I froze, unable to say a word.
Every explanation I had prepared suddenly felt empty and pointless.
I understood exactly how much grief and turmoil he was carrying at that moment.
I knew what it was like to lose someone precious. And Ethan, after losing Harold, had now lost Rola too.
