Chapter 375:
The hallway fell silent for a moment. “My private life has nothing to do with you,” I continued flatly. “Our relationship was only ever an act. Nothing more.”
The words left a strange bitterness in my mouth.
I couldn’t even stop myself from prying into Ethan’s life, yet here I was, lecturing someone else about boundaries as though I had the right.
Brian hung up angrily after that. But I was too exhausted to care about his emotions anymore. I tossed my phone aside carelessly.

Not long afterward, Frank finally returned.
In his hands was a small plastic bag containing hangover medicine, several cans of cold beer, and a thin soft blanket.
Without saying much, he walked over quietly and draped the blanket around my shoulders before holding the pills out toward me again.
“Lianne,” he said softly, sitting down beside me. “I’ve thought about it carefully.”
The first traces of dawn were beginning to appear faintly outside the hallway window, pale light reflecting in his eyes. There was something unbearably gentle in his gaze, so gentle it almost hurt to look at. “Maybe being family…” Frank paused briefly, his voice low and warm. “Maybe that’s the only way I can stay beside you a little longer.”
He smiled faintly. “If you’re willing, then think of me as your brother from now on.” His eyes remained fixed on me, steady and sincere. “I’ll always be here for you, as long as you need me.”
Looking into those clear, honest eyes, I suddenly felt my throat tighten painfully. I couldn’t say a single word. I could only nod silently as tears welled up in my eyes once again.
Lianne’s POV
The next morning, a pounding ache split through my head the moment I woke.
Sunlight stabbed harshly through my eyelids when I opened them.
Fragments of last night drifted back: me crying uncontrollably in Frank’s arms, losing all the composure I had carefully held together. I vaguely remembered him carrying me back to bed afterward.
A glass of warm milk sat on the bedside table. Frank was already awake, seated by the window in the armchair, quietly reading a local newspaper.
When he noticed me stirring, he folded the paper and stood. He walked over and handed me the glass. “Drink this,” he said gently. “It’ll help.”
I took it and drank slowly. The warmth soothed my throat, easing the lingering bitterness from last night.
“Feeling better?” he asked tentatively.
My fingers tightened slightly around the glass. I forced a faint smile. “Yeah. I’ve calmed down. Sorry about last night, I lost control.”
But even I didn’t believe that. And Frank definitely didn’t either.
Still, he didn’t call me out. He simply sighed and gestured for me to get ready.
After checking out, we found a quiet breakfast place tucked away from the main street.
Frank acted like I was on the brink of starvation, piling sandwiches onto my plate with no end in sight.
