Chapter 372:
How could I sneak into my former mate’s bedroom in the middle of the night and touch a man who already belonged to another woman, like some pathetic intruder?
I stared at Ethan’s sleeping face. Still devastatingly handsome. Still enough to ruin me. And yet suddenly, unbearably unfamiliar. A wave of nausea rolled through me, not because of him, but because of myself. I had crossed a line I never should have.
And the whole thing felt ridiculous beyond measure. I couldn’t stay there another second. Turning abruptly, I fled toward the door.
“Lianne…”
From behind me came a low murmur. Gentle. Raspy. Carrying a longing so profound it almost broke me.
The sound pierced straight through my chest like a hook, tugging painfully at my heart.
I froze instantly. Cold sweat slid slowly down my spine.
Had he woken up? Or was he calling another woman’s name? A new mate whose name sounded similar to mine?
I didn’t dare turn around. I barely even dared to breathe.
Gathering every ounce of strength left in my body, I rushed out of the bedroom like a thief caught red-handed, stumbling down the stairs and out into the icy rain.

By the time I climbed into the backseat of the taxi heading back to the hotel, those faint reddish bite marks were still burned into my mind. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t erase them.
I clutched tightly at my chest, gasping for air as though I were drowning, trying desperately to ease the crushing ache spreading through me.
It felt as though my heart was being torn apart piece by piece.
But wasn’t this exactly what I wanted?
I was the one who told him to forget me. The one who pushed him away and told him to move on. The one who insisted he should have a new life without me in it.
And now he had done exactly that. He had someone beside him. Someone who loved him. Perhaps even someone he loved back. So what right did I have to feel heartbroken? What right did I have to cry like a woman abandoned?
I brought this upon myself. I deserved every bit of it.
Lianne’s POV
By the time I returned to the hotel, I was drenched from head to toe, wandering through the hallway like a soul that had completely lost its direction.
The corridor lights were still glowing dimly. To my surprise, Frank was still up.
He was leaning silently against the doorframe, but the instant he saw me, his expression changed. Alarm flashed across his face as he hurried forward and caught my swaying body before I could stumble.
“Lianne! Where did you go? What happened to you?”
The moment I saw him, every wall I had built around myself collapsed completely.
My fingers clutched desperately at the front of his shirt as I buried my face against his chest and broke down. Not quiet tears. Not restrained sobs. I cried so hard it felt like my heart was being ripped apart alive.
“Frank…” My voice shattered between gasps. “He’s moved on… he looks so happy now…”
