Chapter 278:
His words hit me like a thunderbolt.
I stood there frozen, my limbs turning cold as ice, my breath catching in my throat.
Voss Group… Ethan…
So after three years of running and hiding, I had still ended up on his ground.
Even worse, if someone like Alex could already tell Ruby looked like him, what would happen if Ethan ever saw her with his own eyes?
I did not dare let my thoughts go any further as a crushing wave of fear swallowed me whole.

Lianne’s POV:
Alex’s words, though spoken without intent, struck me so suddenly that I was left completely unprepared.
I curled my hands into tight fists, forcing myself to hold on to a fragile calm. I made myself smile and let out an awkward laugh to wave it away. “Is that so? Pretty children all seem to share a similar look. It must just be a coincidence.”
Alex, completely unaware of the turmoil I was hiding, went on in amazement. “I’m serious! Two years ago, I caught sight of Ethan from a distance at an industry summit. Even I had to admit he was flawless, with that overpowering presence and that face of his. With her looks and that sharp little mind, Ruby really does resemble him.”
“What a coincidence,” I answered stiffly, while cold sweat had already soaked through my shirt.
Inside, I kept warning myself that I could not let anyone from the business world lay eyes on Ruby. Not even the colleagues at the company I was close to.
Ethan and I were meant to exist in separate worlds, like two parallel lines that would never cross.
But I had forgotten that he was a predator standing at the very top of the food chain. If he chose to, his reach could extend to every corner of the world.
A moment later, Alex changed the subject and asked, “Lianne, honestly, I’ve never met your mate. He must be pretty handsome, right? A man who could marry someone as capable as you… Bring him around someday so we can meet him and learn a thing or two.”
He had probably assumed I had climbed to the position of director in only three years because I had a powerful Alpha supporting me from behind. He knew nothing about the countless sleepless nights I had endured to break free from my past and build a life for Ruby.
“He’s swamped with work and always flying all over the world. Even I hardly get to see him.” The lie came easily, though a dull pain spread through my chest. “When he has time, I’ll have him treat everyone to dinner.”
At last, after sending the overly enthusiastic Alex away, I nearly ran into my office and locked the door behind me.
My hands were shaking as I called the CEO, Brian Perez.
“Brian, I want off the Bay Resort Project.” I went straight to the point, my voice tight with urgency.
