Chapter 288:
My little angel was waiting for me there.
Ethan’s POV:
On impulse, I booked a flight to Brinewick, wanting nothing more than to get away from the never-ending work that clung to me and the heaviness that still sat in my heart.
It also gave me an opportunity to see how the resort project was coming along.
I made it clear that this trip was to remain completely private, and I brought no staff with me.
Even so, Noah, as thorough as ever, had already taken care of the airport pick-up, the hotel stay, and the restaurant reservations before my plane even touched down.
The moment I walked out of the airport, the sharp, salty wind from the sea rushed over me, carrying a freshness I had not felt in far too long.
I sank into the back seat of the car sent to collect me and shut my eyes to rest for a moment.
After spending an entire day in transit, I was worn out. I shrugged off my fitted suit jacket and undid the top two buttons of my shirt, finally letting myself ease into this rare bit of comfort.
“Alpha, should we go straight to the Time Hotel?” The driver studied my face carefully through the rearview mirror.

“Yes,” I said quietly, without opening my eyes.
The car moved along the neat streets of the small town and before long arrived at the Time Hotel. The interior looked fairly good. Though it was nowhere near the standard of luxury hotels in major cities, it was still tidy and refined enough for a place this far out.
The driver started to take my luggage for me, but I lifted a hand and stopped him. I picked up my modest travel bag myself and headed toward the lobby.
“Mommy!”
A childish voice suddenly rang in my ears.
My steps halted without warning, and my eyes instinctively shifted toward the sound.
In the lounge nearby stood a little girl, about two or three years old.
Her hair was tied into two springy pigtails, and she stood with her back to me, waving eagerly toward the elevator.
From my angle, all I could see was one plump, rounded cheek, impossibly cute.
There was not a single adult anywhere around her.
I looked at that tiny figure for two seconds. Somewhere deep in me, in a place that had gone untouched for years, something seemed to stir ever so lightly.
But it lasted only two seconds.
The weariness from the long flight quickly smothered that brief spark of curiosity.
I turned my gaze away, walked straight into the elevator, and went up to the executive suite Noah had reserved for me.
Once I had showered, the hot water stripped away the exhaustion from the journey.
Dressed in a bathrobe, I made my way to the window, drew the curtains open, and called Noah back after noticing his missed call.
