Chapter 696:
Unable to meet his eyes, I nervously bit at my freshly applied lipstick. “We’re going out, aren’t we? Of course I wanted to look presentable. It’s only polite…”
“Polite?” He gave a quiet, dismissive laugh. His fingers skimmed across my cheek before he declared possessively, “If you didn’t dress up for me, then you’re not leaving this room today.”
His shameless jealousy was so dramatic I couldn’t stop myself from laughing. “Ethan, have you secretly been binge-reading those CEO romance novels in Nshire?”
He paused for only a heartbeat. Rather than denying it, he leaned even closer, the corners of his lips curling upward. “And if I have?” he murmured. “Do you like it?”
Before I could answer, his expression darkened again. “And those roses?” he asked, his jealousy flaring back to life. “Why did you accept Frank’s flowers?”
He lightly lifted my chin, making sure I looked straight into his eyes.
Only then did I fully realize how unbelievably petty this man could be.
That incident had happened days ago, yet he’d apparently been holding onto it the entire time.

“I honestly thought they were from you at first,” I explained. “I only found out later that Frank had sent them. Tracy forwarded him the pictures from the Voss Group’s forum, so he learned I liked flowers and decided to send me some.”
The realization struck me almost immediately. Ethan had probably rushed back from Nshire without hesitation because he’d been stewing over that bouquet.
What left me even more speechless was that hearing me say Frank’s name seemed to irritate him even more. His face darkened as he ordered, “Don’t say his name again.”
For someone everyone feared, he was sulking like a little boy who’d had his favorite toy taken away.
“It was you who had the forum post deleted, wasn’t it?” I asked.
Back then, the candid photo someone had secretly taken of me had spread across the forum like wildfire, only to disappear completely within minutes.
“Even from Nshire, I still have to keep watch over everyone interested in you,” he admitted without the slightest hint of embarrassment. “Lianne, too many men have their eyes on you. I can’t even concentrate on work anymore.”
The sight of him frowning so deeply tugged at my heart. I lifted my hand and gently smoothed the crease between his brows.
My voice softened as I whispered, “A bouquet of flowers could never make me fall for someone. Ethan, you’re my fated mate, the one chosen for me by the Moon Goddess.”
The instant he heard my words, the fierce possessiveness in his eyes melted away.
Thinking about how he’d worked through the night despite being sick, and noticing that both children had already fallen asleep, I gently urged, “Go back to your room and rest. You really need some sleep.”
Instead, he tightened his arms around my waist and clung to me with shameless affection, looking far more like an oversized, clingy puppy than the intimidating Alpha everyone feared. “I’m not going,” he murmured. “Not unless you come with me.”
