Chapter 451:
After a long and unbearable silence, I lowered my head and looked at the bandages wrapped around my hands.
“No…” My voice was barely audible. “He’s the strongest Alpha I’ve ever known.” I held tightly to that tiny spark of hope, as though I were trying to convince myself. “He won’t die that easily. The elders must have taken him away for emergency treatment… Yes, that has to be it. He will recover. And when he does… he’ll come back for me.”
Lianne’s POV
“Where’s Ethan? Frank, tell me where he is!” I gripped the bedsheet tightly. Refusing to let the matter go, I demanded an answer once again.
Frank stood beside the bed, his usually kind face looking conflicted.
He met my eyes. With a weary sigh, he finally gave in under my persistent stare. “He’s alive… but he is in a critical condition. The silver dagger pierced his lung and stopped less than an inch from his heart. The Thorn Pack elders have taken him deep into Darkroot Forest… to seek the witches’ help.”
Darkroot Forest. The witches.
To werewolves, that was a place of last resort. Only when modern medicine failed completely would anyone turn to the witches. Their ancient magic and mysterious potions could purge silver poison, but the price they demanded was often beyond what anyone could pay.
I couldn’t get Ivy’s crazed face out of my head, or the image of the silver dagger buried in Ethan’s chest.

The pain in my heart was so intense it felt as though someone was tearing it apart piece by piece.
“I need to see him,” I said firmly as I struggled to sit upright.
“Have you lost your mind?” Frank grabbed my shoulders and forced me back down. “Look at yourself! Your wounds haven’t even been fully stitched, and the silver poison is still inside your body. You can’t even stand properly. How are you supposed to enter Darkroot Forest? You’ll be throwing your life away!”
I ignored every word he said.
As the anesthetic gradually wore off, agonizing pain spread through my body. It felt like thousands of insects were gnawing on my bones.
I could feel my wolf slipping back into a deep sleep.
Without my healing abilities, I was now even weaker than the most fragile human.
My sudden movements caused the stitches on my chest and abdomen to tear open.
Crimson quickly began to seep through the white bandages. Warm blood ran down my waist and soaked the sheets beneath me.
The unbearable pain blurred my sight. Cold sweat covered my forehead, and large drops rolled down my cheeks and into my mouth. It tasted so bitter that it made me want to cry.
Biting down hard, I forced my feet toward the floor. But the moment they touched it, my body gave out completely. I crashed forward like a rag doll.
A heavy thud echoed through the room as my knees slammed against the hard floor.
The sharp pain I felt nearly caused me to lose consciousness.
