Chapter 979:
My fingers tightened around the towel as I considered his words. Eventually, I asked, “Once we have the antidote, what are you planning to do with Melisa?”
Something colder entered his eyes. His answer was steady, but the anger underneath it was unmistakable. “She caused this situation. She has deliberately withheld the antidote while repeatedly putting your life at risk. Lianne, I have no intention of letting her off. Anyone who chooses to hurt you will answer for it.”
I stared at him, torn between understanding his rage and feeling uneasy about what Melisa’s future might hold. I knew every step he had taken was meant to protect me. Even so, I couldn’t completely ignore the thought of what might happen to her.
“Ethan, I…”
I didn’t get the chance to finish. He leaned toward me, one hand sliding behind my head, and pressed his lips against mine.
The sudden kiss silenced the rest of my sentence.
His kiss carried a punishing intensity, as if reminding me not to forget my promise.
When he finally pulled away, he kept his forehead against mine, our breaths still mingling between us. His voice was quiet, yet firm. “You gave me your word that you wouldn’t interfere. Don’t forget that.”
I met his eyes. There was no uncertainty in his expression, only unwavering resolve. After a moment, I gave a reluctant nod.
That was enough for him. He kissed my forehead, then gathered me against his chest. His tone softened considerably. “Go to sleep. I’ll deal with everything else. Your only job is to recover and wait for the antidote.”
I rested against him, listening to the steady thump beneath his chest. I closed my eyes, but sleep refused to come easily. The studio plans had finally been approved, and construction had officially begun.

I had to admit that Noah’s involvement had taken an enormous burden off my shoulders. Ethan had specifically arranged for him to assist me, and Noah handled every task with remarkable efficiency. He dealt with office equipment suppliers, compared quotations, negotiated prices, and kept track of details I would otherwise have struggled to manage.
Today, he had even found a supplier willing to offer nearly twenty percent below the usual market rate. I couldn’t help staring at him in admiration. “Noah, if you ever decide to leave Voss Group, I’m stealing you for myself.”
He laughed and immediately waved his hands. “Please don’t say things like that. If Alpha hears you, he’ll cut my salary.”
I laughed along with him before shifting the conversation toward his personal life.
Noah wasn’t exactly young anymore, and from what he’d told me, his parents had been pestering him about marriage for quite some time.
“You’re reliable, patient, and responsible,” I told him. “Any woman would be fortunate to have someone like you. When you meet someone you genuinely like, don’t let the opportunity pass you by.”
He rubbed the side of his nose, suddenly looking uncomfortable. Before I could tease him further, he swiftly steered us toward another topic.
