Chapter 624:
She didn’t even look at it. She continued to stare blankly ahead as she said in a distant tone, “He knows… Jeremy knows I’m pregnant. Just now, he knelt before me and begged me not to terminate the pregnancy.”
I wasn’t surprised.
“Lianne, a few days ago…” Tracy’s voice choked with emotion. “While I was waiting outside the obstetrics clinic, I saw so many pregnant women smiling so happily. I couldn’t help imagining what it would be like to be a mother.”
She slowly lowered her head. Her voice was barely above a whisper. “The night I found out I was pregnant, I even caught myself dreaming about it. If it’s a boy, I hope he grows up like me. Honest and principled, not fickle like his father. If it’s a girl, then she should look like Jeremy. Beautiful and gentle, like a little princess…”
I squeezed her hand. My heart ached more with every word. Unable to stop myself, I asked softly, “Tracy… are you finding it hard to let go?”

“I love him,” Tracy confessed. Tears began to run down her cheeks. “The way he treats me… the way he loves me with everything he has, as if he wants to give me the whole world… how could anyone not be touched by that?”
But the warmth in her eyes suddenly disappeared. Her gaze turned cold and unwavering.
“Love is one thing, but I can’t keep this baby. I refuse to let my child enter the world only to have a half-sister from the very beginning, competing for that tiny, pitiful share of a father’s love. And I know myself well enough to admit that I’ll never be generous enough to raise the child my mate had with another woman.”
She lifted her head and looked straight into my eyes. Her gaze was firm and unyielding. “Lianne, tell me. I’m making the right choice… aren’t I?”
I couldn’t answer immediately. The bitterness in my heart made it difficult to speak. Eventually, I could only nod, trying my best to comfort her. “You are. You’re making this choice for yourself… and to keep your child from living through that kind of pain.”
Tracy managed a sad smile. “That’s right,” she said with mockery. “With my bad temper, how could I ever be a kind, gracious stepmother? I would probably end up treating that little girl terribly and have everyone judging me for it.”
Seeing her pretend to be okay and even try to crack a joke made my heart hurt.
There wasn’t anything amusing about that awkward joke.
I knew exactly what she was doing. She was using cruel words and self-mockery to harden her heart, convincing herself not to look back or regret the choice she had made.
Ethan’s POV
The first light of dawn spread across the horizon, painting the sky in a soft, pale glow.
I parked my car outside Tracy’s apartment building.
For the past few days, I had arranged for people to keep watch over this place. On one hand, it was to protect Lianne, but deep down, I knew it was for my own selfish desire.
