Chapter 630

Chapter 630:
The street outside was deserted. Under the glow of the streetlights, the shadows of the trees stretched across the ground, looking strangely eerie.
When I didn’t see Jeremy anywhere nearby, I quietly let out a breath of relief.
But the moment we turned the corner, a figure suddenly rushed out from the dark and grabbed Tracy by the arm.
“Tracy! Please, listen to me!” Jeremy cried, gripping a crumpled report tightly in his other hand. His words came out in a rush. “That child isn’t mine! That woman faked everything. She used illegal potions to change the child’s scent and appearance to deceive me. This is the paternity test. Look at it! Please, you have to read it!”
Tracy stood frozen, and the determination in her eyes wavered.
Jeremy paused briefly. His voice was lower as he said hesitantly, “Actually… Ethan helped me investigate. He managed to get a blood sample from the child.”
My heart skipped a beat.
Ethan was back?
He had even helped Jeremy find the truth.
Then why hadn’t he come to find me?
Why hadn’t he sent me even a single message?

Lianne’s POV
“You guys talk. I’m going to clear my head for a bit,” I murmured before quietly leaving Tracy and Jeremy alone together.
My feet carried me toward a park a short distance away.
The night air bit through my clothes, cold enough to raise goosebumps across my skin.
Everything I had endured over the last several days suddenly weighed on me at once. The endless hunt for legal help, the constant refusals, the repeated disappointment. It had drained every ounce of strength I had left.
Right then, all I wanted was something strong enough to numb the heaviness sitting inside my chest.
I stopped by a supermarket, picked up several cans of beer, then settled onto a lonely bench beneath the trees. I cracked one open and swallowed a huge mouthful immediately.
The icy bitterness rushed down my throat, and soon I was drunk.
I sat there staring blankly at the moving shadows cast by the branches overhead. They rocked gently beneath the streetlights, lulling my muddled mind into a trance. Somewhere within that blur, I saw Ethan.
That familiar dark overcoat. That tall figure standing beneath the pale glow of a lamp. Those unreadable eyes fixed on me with quiet affection hidden beneath restraint.
Then I blinked. The illusion vanished, leaving only the weak amber light flickering across the empty path.
Driven by alcohol and impulse, I opened Ethan’s chat window with shaky hands and typed. “Are you back?”
It took him a long time to respond. “No.”
That single reply twisted painfully inside me.
It felt wrong.
Before, Ethan would respond endlessly, even if I only sent a meaningless sticker. He would ask whether I’d had a good day, whether I was smiling, whether something funny had happened. Now he was so cold to me.
